A rusk at 6 month?

I posted a few days ago as DS, 6 month, is not interested in purees. Tonight he's been reaching for my biscuit so I've let him play with it and he seems to like something solid for the first time ever.
Can I give him a rusk?

how about a rice cake or a finger of toast? - a bit less sugary than a rusk (which I only gave occasionally as finger food). A rich tea biscuit or a digestive biscuit might be a slightly less sugary alternative.

My biscuit was a rich tea and what I gave him is a less sugary version (I am in France). Is a biscuit allright? Is he not going to choke?

if he slobbers it enough then it should just dissolve - just watch for him biting bits off as you may have to fish them out with your finger.

He won't choke, most finger foods are fine from 6 months, with common sence.

You can get sugar free rusks which I would say are fine, so is a rish tea or something as long as it isn't all the time.

How about giving him some pasta or something to feed himself? Just some plain fussli or penne or something on his high chair and let him play with it or feed himself it?

He might not eat much at first but don't worry.

Sorry I had to rush for DD. I wasn't keen on BLW but am starting to think it's the way forward for DS. I'll try toast/pasta tomorrow. Still a bit scared of choking though! Thanks all!

You can give him sticks of steamed / roast veg, bread, cheese, well pretty much anything you're having really. Obviously the usual rules about limited salt and sugar apply.

A lot of people give a finger food diet straight from six months, I did it with my DD (now 14 months) and we had a great time. The method is called BLW, I can do you some links if you'd like to read a wee bit about it (and there's a lot in the MN archives on it too).

Ooops, double X from baby distraction...

i was just about to say, maybe your child is more suited to BLW....wish I'd gone down that route! Live and learn....
