BLW - a poo question

Isaidno · 03/02/2009 13:37

My dd is 33 weeks and we are blw.
For the last 3 weeks poos have indicated that food is now going in.

For the past few days however, she seems to be struggling, only managing little turds - about 1 cm long. She grunts and groans to expel them!

I do not think she is properly constipated as the poo is soft and she still bfs many times a day so is not dehydrated.

Is this just a stage where her body is adapying to a different sort of poo? I puree fed the 2 ds and never experienced this prob.

She has a bit of toast for brekkie, some fruit and bread at lunch and veggies for tea.

anyone?
Things are moving since my original post, but will this continue for a while? Poor dd is getting a sore bum.

DD did go through a phase at one point of doing lots and lots of tiny poos and getting a bit of a sore bottom as a result. Unfortunately I can't remember exactly when it was or how long it lasted but it did resolve itself in not too much time.

it can take the gut some time to get used to solids (Kez poohed rabbit pellets early hours of one morning poor love made her cry) but it's also important to give cooled boiled water with food

Thanks portandlemon.
kez - can't get Poppy interested in water, but as I am still bf this is not really important. FF babies need water.

Anyways last night she managed a good poo. She cried about it - I think she perhaps doesn't like the sensation? She'll have to get used to it!!

I am still breastfeeding too. Kez has about 10 mins after solids and big BF's between meals early am and night. But when Kez did her rabbit poo's I was told by the HV to give Kez cool boiled water with solids once having more than a couple of teaspoons, because there is less fluid in the solids. She has it in a beaker and thankfully loves it. Girls from the breastfeeding group recommended a beaker without a one-way valve (ASDA do a cheap one) because often they have to suck and bite which is hard, sadly means she shakes it and we get a shower.

Hopefully it's sorted now poor thing. If she has been constipated then it could be uncomfortable to pooh

diluted orange juice works well and increase the amount of fruit, in the early days I gave with every meal

She is doing bigger poos now, and they are soft but sausage shaped. She cries when they come out and I think she does not like the feeling.
We do have a cup with no valve and I do keep offering it. Will try to keep fruit levels up.
