Have traumatized my DS with carrot puree - need help

Last Friday we were at the end of the second week of weaning. All had gone well with Baby Rice, Pear, Baby Cereal and Butternut Squash. I decided to try some carrot. DS ate some initially then started spitting it out and finally was sick - including all the milk he had drunk earlier.

Now 3 days on he still won't eat anything that comes on a spoon. I've tried food I know he likes and been very careful not to force him to take anything - but he clamps his mouth shut and tries to push the spoon away. He won't even take food on my finger.

Should I persevere cautiously as I have been doing or should I try a more BLW approach without the spoon and purees?

It's so sad as last week he was wolfing down the food with his little mouth open like a baby bird and now he hates it. I feel terrible!

oh no! my DS is also two weeks into weaning and doesn't like carrot either. (but just coughs and spits, didn't actually get sick)

i am just learning about it all myself, but i would probably try giving him a break for a couple of days, then trying again with something he likes.

i don't think there's any rush, and I'm sure he is not scarred for life! ;)

Don't worry, have faith, he will be a baby bird for you again. Maybe try apple? When my DS was in the uncertain early days of puree, it was always the one that tempted him. Could mix with a bit of rice too, and then gradually move back onto whatever your original plan was ... Good luck.

But of course, if you want to try BLW, that is cool too -- loads of advice on here

/wave Divejaney not meaning to stalk you, just nowhere else to go!

I thought i'd done this too by giving DD too much pear - spectacular vomiting & she wasn't happy. Got around it next time by eating from her spoon in front of her, she was so curious that she grabbed it off me.

However, this weekend with DD down with cold we abandoned everything for a couple of days until she felt better.

My DS is doing something along the same lines, altough we are on our 5th wk and he has never been all that interested tbh! I was putting it down to him just being a boy, my dd was weaned at the same time - 5 1/2 months with no probs at all. So far nothing seems to tempt, pear did once but no more and yesterday he had carrot and mash, no lumps at all but gagged and then threw it all up, bottle and all! Just tried to feed him dinner, his mouth was clamped the whole time and he wouldnt even look at me, I gave it 15 mins and then gave him his bottle which he wolfed down, arghhhh! I am quite happy to carry on like this until he decides to eat but my mum and mil are both pestering me to get it sorted, he is not waking up in the night, so I will leave him be for now, dont you think?

Had a bit more success today with apple - thanks DorotheaPlenticlew!
I've worked out that if I wave one spoon in front of him he makes a grab for it and I can get the other in his mouth.
He didn't eat much but didn't spit it out or look too cross either so will count it as a success and try apple again tomorrow.

I always find my two eat better when they have a spoon or a bit of rice cake to play with.

I have found that whatever method you're using - blw or purees or whatever they will eat when they are ready to so I would just hang back and wait.

I know thats easier said than done when everyones getting at you about it but it really is fun when they're ready and grabbing for the spoon etc.
