8mth only purees, no lumps at all - help

I know babies do things at different rates, but DD has been weaning for the last two months and has been really great - eats a variety of flavours and is getting on well. However, everything has to be super pureed or she won't eat it. She has two bottom teeth and won't chew at all. If she gets the slightest 'lump', which really isn't a lump, she starts to gag. She doesn't 'do' finger food and I'd really like to introduce mini pasta/ tuna/ bits of carrots etc.

Can anyone offer advise, or is it just a waiting game?

Ds1 used to do this, I would feed him his meal and then if there was a lump or anything he would throw the whole thing up. He was never actually diagnosed but the GP said that it could be a swallowing problem which would resolve by itself so I just let him have purees for longer. Ds2 was totally different, he was fine with biting and chewing from a young age. I would let her have purees for longer if I were you, she is still very young.

Hi,

My DS is the same, he is 8 months and gags on lumps. I'm not going to worry about it I've never seen a 15 year old that can't eat a bag of crisps so I guess that he'll eat lumpy things when hes good and ready!

DD is the same, though now she's 9 1/2 months, she's getting a little better. She has 8 teeth, all at the front, so finger food doesn't work for us as she bites huge chunks off and then gags and throws it all up. I let her have rice cakes as they dissolve in her mouth it seems, but no roast veg sticks for us
But she is gradually getting better. My advice would be stick with purees but every few days try something a bit textured. But it does get depressing having them throw up every meal, so I sympathise.
I also found that if I gave her small pieces of soft food, and hand-fed them to her, she could manage that - buttered muffins went down very well
