Hello all, dd2 is 8 1/2 months and I really hadn't planned on doing BLW, but I suppose she had other ideas and she "led" me away from purees she tolerated the spoon for a while and now refuses it completely, unless it's yoghurt (which she loves) or sometimes porridge in the morning.

So now I am offering only finger foods, trying to give her a good variety (veg, fish flakes, chicken strips, fruits, toast etc), and she is keen, but it seems to me she actually ingests only a very, very tiny quantity of food- most of it ends up on the floor.

I also stopped breastfeeding as I am going back to work so she's on bottles (in case that's relevant). she drinks formula ok, although not huge amounts either (prob 20-24 oz a day).

Really, I am just after some reassurance that it is normal that she eats so little and that it is enough for her, athat she is not missing out on vital nutrients, and that she will take more as she grows up...

thanks in advance!

Is she putting on weight?

My DD is 10 months and has always been BLW because like your DD, she refused a spoon. DD has drunk 21oz of milk per day for the last few months which I think is fine.

I just try and make sure she has lots of snacks, fruit in the morning and veg sticks in the afternoon and make sure she has a reasonable of dairy and that she is putting on weight, which she is.

Hi beforesunrise DS is 10 months and at about the same age as your DD did exactly the same, started refusing the spoon. We'd been doing some finger foods so just only did that. He didn't seem to be eating anything much for about 3 weeks or so and then suddenly ate an entire banana! I think it takes a little while.
DS has about 25oz on a good day, less on a funny day, but has always taken a lot of milk. His milk intake hasn't dropped much at all since solids. He's still putting on weight fine, remember the weight gain slows about now. He looks great so I only weigh him about once a month or so now.
Your DD sounds completely normal!

oooh, and DS finds fish much easier to eat than chicken so I tend to give that more. I think chicken's a bit fibrous to be able to chew well, whereas the fish just flakes.

Hi, My 9 month dd sounds just like yours. She too drinks 20-24 oz of formula a day and doesn't really eat that much most of the time. She enjoys the whole experience and tries everything, but mostly only takes a few bites of this and that three times a day. She's gaining weight really well and is on the same percentile as always. Seems as healthy as a wild duck, as my mum likes to continuously say.

thanks for all your messages. i suppose i should relax a bit, she does take to finger foods quite enthusiastically so i suppose as she gets more teeth she'll get better at actually chewing!
