Hi

Just after a bit of advice, guidance and some ideas.

I have been weaning my son for 4 weeks now and he is 29 weeks old. I've pretty much been doing the Annabel Karmel meal planner and my son is now having three 'meals' a day along with about 29oz of milk which I am slowly starting to cut down.

A typical day of eating for my son consists of
Breakfast (pear, manago, papaya, banana etc)sometimes mixed with a little babyrice.

Lunch - pureed cali, brocolli, carrot, pea, butternut squash etc...

Dinner - Another pureed veg or combination of veg.

I now wish to introduce a few more things but am weary of things with salt, sugar etc and don't want him to eat meat. So, any ideas? What cerals don't have added sugar or salt? What bread would you give, (I'm guessing you need to study the list of ingredients)with what on? Lentils - can you just give them on their own. When did you introduce fish and eggs? Oh, and which finger foods?

All thoughts very gratefully received.

finger foods are a good way to add variety - any of the fruit or veg you mention (in fact any fruit or veg, excpet for choky things like grapes) steamed if necc and cut into fingers or fist-sized lumps.
Toast, breadsticks, pasta shapes, potato wedges, sweet potato wedges all good.
Mini shredded wheats have no added salt or sugar and are a fab finger food once spolshed with milk and microwaved 20sec. If you want a spooning cereal readybrek has no added crap either, but there's no reason she can't have real porridge.

I gave whatever bread we had (usu seedy granary) and just made sure dd didn;t eat it at every meal, iyswim, and I bought unsalted butter.

make daal or soup with lentils, or just cook down to a mush

we did fish and egg from 6m but are not an allergicky family

oh and cream cheese (eg Philadelphia) is good on toast
also hummus (make your own, dead easy from tinned chickpeas, if you are worried about salt)

p2b my DS is about the same age - he's had fish, lentils and chicken already. I did the 'lovely lentils' in the AK book Basically lentils and veg mush). He also has pureed veg with cheese sauce.

For cereals he has oatibix or Plum baby porridge. When that's done he'll have normal porridge. He has toast with unsalted butter or with mashed banana.

His day generally looks like this:

Breakfast - cereal/porridge with some fruit plus his milk

Lunch - protein meal and water

Tea - veg based meal with water, followed by yoghurt or a fruit puree. Maybe a couple of rice cakes.

I tend to mash things now rather than puree them in a blender. I also give him some other finger foods as per Mrs Badgers suggestions.

Both very useful posts full of ideas - thank you. Now I just need to act on the ideas! I'm sure my son is just itching to eating something more exciting. He has pretty much loved everything he has tried so far so hopefully he'll enjoy more variety.
