How much food does your 6 month old eat?

We started weaning DS a couple of weeks ago, first just fruit and veg but since last week we've moved on to yoghurt, meat, pasta etc.

I'm just curious really about how much other people's babies have. We are doing a combination of mashed up stuff and finger foods. For example for dinner yesterday he had half a pot of Plum (lamb and carrot I think), followed by a whole Petit Filou! And for lunch today he had chicken with tomato sauce and pasta whizzed up in the blender, maybe 2/3 dessert spoonfuls?

I don't want to stuff him, but he is very keen on his food and is really enjoying everything at the moment. He is grabbing the spoon himself and wanting more so do I just go with what he seems to want?

I am breastfeeding and he is still having the usual 5/6 good feeds per day so I'm not worried that his milk intake is dropping.

Think this sounds really good. The worst thing is if you are trying to force your DC to eat solids, which is tempting because you are so keen for them to eat. But by the sound of things, your DS wants to eat and as long as he is keen to do so, just give him what he wants! I don't think you can easily over feed babies at this stage as they will stop eating when they are full, unlike adults who can just keep going and going.....!

Can I give you one bit of advice? Lay off the Petit Filou. They are full of sugar and although they are marketed as healthy foods for children, they really aren't. There are much better yoghurts on the market - Rachel's organic my first yoghurts and Plum organic fromage frais are naturally flavoured and sugar and additive free. My DS loves them so obviously doesn't care that there's no sugar in them!

BTW, lucky you to have a DS that has taken to food so well! Some of my friends have had a blinkin nightmare trying to get their baby to take food

Thanks for the advice on the Petit Filou, hadn't realised they were bad! I think the sainsburys near to us have the Plum ones so I'll get those next time.

pssst, get plain yoghurt. It's what I always gave DS and he'll eat it plain, or mixed with chopped/pureed fruit. If they don't get a taste for the sugary stuff, they don't know what they are missing.

Go with it. You might find that some days he's not so hungry and other days will eat and eat.

I just used natural yoghurt too. Saved a fortune and you don't end up with a toddler that will only eat yoghurt with Thomas the Tank Engine on etc.

Saves a fortune

Another tip.. use the frozen cubes of different fruit purees to make different flavoured yoghurts.

He sounds like he is doing fine. I'm about to wean DD1 and catching up with how to do things!
