Dropped morning nap and effect on lunch....

Have been living in daytime nap hell for weeks now so have decided to drop the morning nap in the hope of extending the afternoon one. However, dd is now soooooo tired by lunchtime that she doesn't eat. We had lunch at 11.45 today (I like to eat with her) and all she did was smear the finger food into her eyes. AND I had to force myself to eat so early - I mean who has lunch at practically half 11?

The day is something like this (she is 9 months.

6.30 - wake anf bf
8.30 - breakfast
11.45 lunch
12.30 - sleep (hopefully for longer than 15 mins now we have dropped the morning nap)
2.30- bf
5 - tea
7 -bf

What do other people do? She is only on the 2nd centile so I'd rather she ate some lunch

i did lunch at 11.30 when ds went through this a few weeks ago.

i put him down to bed at 12.15 and just made lunch and nap later and later day by day untill he got used to the change.

now he has lunch at 12.30 and nap at 1pm.

Here's hoping... how old is your ds bamboo? It seems early to drop the morning nap but we'd had weeks of 15 mins in the mrning and 25 in the afternoon and then a nightmare by 5.30

When DD dropped her morning nap she wasn't ready to go all the way through to after lunch for her nap. So we did a little snack at about 10.30, nap 11-11.30ish 'til 1.30ish, and lunch shortly after waking. Also has the advantage of being a more civilised time to eat together .

Ooh that's a good idea paddgton. I might try that

Yes this happened to me too. DD now has her lunch between 11 - 11.30. And then goes for a nap around 12.

I often don't eat my lunch at the same time as her I'm not hungry yet. But will have a cup of tea and sit at the table with her

DD went through this, sometimes she would fall asleep at the dinner table!

I used to mix it depending on her mood. Sometimes I would give her a snack at about 11am, put her down at 12pm for sleep, then give her a late lunch. Sometimes I would give her lunch at 11:30pm and then a snack when she woke.

I really think you do not have to be too strict with the routine, especially when things like naps are changing and clash. She will not starve if she misses lunch and does not have it until 1:30pm or so, or if she eats a meal early.

What is with my typos today - not lunch at 11:30pm, that would be really late wouldn't it

Lilyloo · 26/01/2009 13:14

dd just turned 12 mths

we do nap at 11.30 until 1.30 then lunch
she has snack at 10 ish

sunshine75 · 26/01/2009 13:15

Good advice pavlov, I just want her in a vague sort of routine for when i go back to work in 2 months. My dad is looking after her and will need to know what to do.

Completely understand sunshine - its difficult to manage the transitions, esp when you have factors such as childcare to manage too. I was lucky that DD went to nursery for a day and they do early lunch there anyway, and on the other days I was at work, DH looked after DD and he knew what to do anyway.

sorry! had to dash off.

ds is 11m now but he went through a stage at about 9m of not wanting a morning nap but he couldn't keep it up for long and went back to two naps. now he has decided to just have an afternoon nap again.
