I've just used water to mix with oats so far, and just loaded the spoon for him (he's nearly 7 months) Because he's feeding himself it is very messy and he got through alot of porridge.. Can i use cows milk this young to mix with oats etc? You'd think i'd know my dd's only 2 but i can't remember! I'm bf and i don't express, so doing it by hand to get enough milk out for his breakfast would take forever....

If it is being cooked in it, then cows' milk is fine, yes.

I didn't use any milk at all in DS's porridge - just made it with water - it was still lovely and creamy. He was bf too so I figured he got all the milk he needed from me.

That's what i thought, if it's in cooking it's okay. I would just make it for him with water but my 2 year old likes it with milk so at the moment i'm having to make two lots of porridge, would be far easier if they had the same.

i'm sure what i've read is that cow's milk is fine in cooking from six months.

If you want to avoid cows milk we used Rice milk it gave porridge a nice flavour and is naturally quite sweet. Kids still prefer to drink it to cows milk.

cows milk is fine from 6 months as long as it isnt being given as a main drink .
