A couple of weeks ago, I took DS2 to be weighed at a drop-in clinic. I was talking to another mum there who had 2 girls and she said both hers were on solids by the time they were DS2's age - 7 weeks fgs. Obviously I was but have since been wondering how you would actually feed them? They can't sit up, support their own head etc so it must be really difficult to find a suitable position for them to be able to feed them with a spoon

Besides, why would you want to do this??

Baby rice or rusk in the bottle. Clever girls.

NotQuiteCockney · 21/01/2009 09:23

You would feed them in a bouncy chair or carseat, or as wasting says, rusk in the bottle.

Used to be normal, I know I was weaned at 6 weeks or something. (I also have IBS. And a wide range of atopic problems. Just in case anyone thinks this is an 'and it did me no harm' post!)

lie baby down and shove food in mouth (seen it done was not nice)

macaco · 21/01/2009 11:54

but WHY would you do it? Is it a "it'll make them sleep" thing?

wastingmyeducation · 21/01/2009 11:58

Yes. That's the reason given when I've heard people feeding this early.

Ceebee74 · 21/01/2009 12:07

Never thought about the bouncy chair!

Apparently the reason she did it for both her children was because they were 'hungry' - well give them some more milk then!!!

It's so cruel. Think how frighteneing it must feel for the poor baby to have absoloutly no control over what is being forced into their mouths. They have to swallow or they'll choke. Imagine someone laying you back and spoon feeding you with you having no idea what is on the spoon or how much. It's so wrong.

If you have any further questions or need a demonstration, you can befriend my SIL on fb. She has lots of photos of her 12 week old in a bouncy chair/on a beanbag having porridge shovelled into her mouth. Lovely captions too. "Here's dn enjoying lunch" for example. DN being force fed more like.

I find this sort of thing really disturbing. Why do people choose to ignore health recommendations? Why would you take risks with your baby's health?

piximon · 21/01/2009 12:24

Crushed into baby bottle. I was also weaned very early, before I left the hospital they were putting rusk in my milk so my mother could get plenty of rest, common in the 70s apparently, I thought times had moved on. I suffer very badly with IBS and eczema.

Bubbleymummy me too! I was sat there looking at my helpless little 7 week old newborn wondering why you would even want to shovel food down his little tiny mouth
