Now my dd is 6 months what sort of foods can i give her?
Im not interested in blw ( sorry to be blunt )

Can she eat the foods we eat nw or is there anything i still need to steer clear off?

Like say we are having lasanga ( spelt wrong) tonight would she be alloud that mashed up and mixed with her milk?

Or like fish fingers etc etc and of course veggies which i know she is aloud anyway

We are having a job feeding her at the moment coz she is fussy and i dont wanna have to use jars forever but now she is 6 months im hoping it will be easier to give her a wider range of foods.

she can eat anything you eat but hold off the honey and nuts (and maybe too much salt)

BLW is much easier though - you could just give her pasta with tomato sauce and grated cheese and you wouldn't have to mus it up and feed it to her

Im just worried with blw as she is difficult to feed as it is and has very slow weight gain and if i did blw she wil just not eat it

Sorry just to add we do eat a lot of processed food ( bad i know ) is this still of for a 6 month old.

We do try and eat healthy processed food ( if such thing) and have veg almost every day

Just watch out for the salt content in processed food - it can be v high and def not for babies.

Tommy · 19/01/2009 17:50

I don't really know what to add here jadey! I should think that if the lasagne was homemade then obviously it would better for her than one from a packet which would have a lot of salt in I guess.

She should still be getting most of her nutrients from milk at this age anyway

jadey24 · 19/01/2009 17:52

ahhh right lol this has been why ive been avoiding giving her home made. I tried cooking homemade veg and fruit but she turned her nose up and we are having a hell of a time with her milk feeds. She is real fussy feeder

Hi jadey - Definitely steer clear of processed food because of the high salt content and other chemicals and stuff in it, and don't add salt to anything you cook for her.

When you start to give her breakfast she could have porridge or Weetabix for example which are easy and quick. As for other meals, as you aren't planning to do blw and you eat processed food, probably the best thing to do would be when you do cook something from scratch, say like soup or stew or shepherd's pie, you could make a lot and freeze portions for your baby, so when you are having a take-away or something, she can have a meal from the freezer. Any time you do cook from scratch, just mash and give her some, making sure no salt, jarred sauces aren't great imo either.

She probably won't eat much to begin with anyway, so even though she's turning her nose up at your cooked veg now, she could be happy to eat it in a few weeks' time.

What about meat such as chops etc and sausages can she have them if i mash um up?

Sorry for all the qs i just wanna make sure i do this right and not give her something i shouldnt

I think chicken and fish are easier for babies to manage at the start but I'm not sure if meat is recommended at 6 months...I know sausages are considered to be a big choking risk so be careful with them.

pispirispis · 20/01/2009 10:04

Meat is fine - as Tommy says, no honey or whole nuts and be v careful with salt. Chops are fine as they are just meat but sausages are processed, they have lots of crap in them. That said, a lot of mums give their babies sausages, but maybe you could hold off on them for a few months? Don't worry if she doesn't eat much yet or seems "fussy" at the moment - she's very young and will be fine if she just wants mostly milk. Just go v slowly, and don't worry if she turns her nose up, just keep trying and give her loads of milk. If you're having dinner and it's something processed, like a frozen lasagne or something, just give her a mashed bit of your veg or potatoes. That way, if she doesn't want it you haven't had to cook something special so it won't bother you. Think "whole" food, not processed, so anything home cooked, veg, fruit, potatoes...

She will just be starting with solids, so why not give her some pasta, or cooked vegetables. Adult processed food is really not suitable for babies - far too much salt, for one thing.

Poach her some chicken or fish to try. But she should be getting most of her nourishment from milk still.
