Nursery and BLW for my 5.5mo DS

I was hoping to BLW, but am returning to work in a couple of weeks time. DS had his second settling in session today at nursery (will be going 3 days a week till end of January, then 4 days a week when I go back to work).

I talked to his key worker about weaning, specifically about BLW, and she was fairly adamant that they don't recommend that due to choking risk and went on about how I should be giving him baby rice as his first food . I wasn't asking for advice, I was trying to tell her what I planned and could the nursery fit in with that.

Anyway, didn't really get anywhere (had to rush off anyway as had dentist appointment to get to), but am wondering how to bring this up again - or should I just accept that he'll be eating puree at nursery?

Was so irritated in fact that although previously being adamant about waiting until 6 months, I put a roast parsnip on his highchair tray this evening and HE LOVED IT. Am wondering whether to carry on at home and when he gets to 6 months tell them what he's been eating.

Any advice gratefully received, TIA

Hi, have 7.5 month old, just starting at nursery, see thread here on similar issues!

Good luck! I can't give any advice really as am still trying to work this one out, but we may end up blw at home and letting them spoonfeed at nursery, in part because of their concerns about choking.

The guidelines do say "around six months" or "around the middle of the first year". They don't say "on the day your child is 26 weeks old".

I don't think 5.5 months old is anything to worry about, especially as he chose the food and ate it himself.

I commented on the other thread about childcare.
