DD doesn't like textured stage 2 mush!

My 7 month old DD doesn't like texture mush... She'll chomp happily on finger food and gobble any puree I offer her but anything gooey with lumps in she refuses... Should I just not bother and stay on purees and finger food or is there an alternative?

They often don't like the smooth-with-lumps food - my DD always gagged on it.

Finger food is fine, after all its closer to a normal adult diet which is what you're aiming for in the end!

Yep, don't bother with it. She is learning to deal with chewing and lumps by eating finger food. I'd keep offering meals with a variety of textures if you are making them anyway for yourself, but don't make/buy it especially for her.

Thanks for the advice. I'll keep trying her on it now and then but she's doing so well with the finger food... Is it at around 1 when they basically eat what we eat unmushed?

From 6 months they can eat what we eat but not mushed. But as she isn't taking lumps then it might be tricky. But anything she will eat is fine, providing low salt, low sugar and no honey

previosu posts spot on - ditch the purees and just offer finger food

dd still isn't keen on slightly-lumpy things like porridge or rice pudding and she's 17m

MrsBadger · 07/01/2009 15:56

oh and dd barely had mush at all - finger food from the word go

bear in mind that for a baby almost any food can be 'finger food'...

Becky77 · 07/01/2009 15:58

Ahhhhh you BLWers! Haha the thing is she's been on 3 meals a day of puree for a couple of months so to take it away now and expect her to fill herself up would be cruel no?

well, perhaps a slow changeover then?

Becky77 · 07/01/2009 16:59

Yes... that's the aim. As she gets better at chewing she'll increase how much she gets in and then she'll need less puree

Don't take it away from her, just increase the amount of finger foods and reduce the puree. you can give stuff like plain, cooked pasta etc to feed herself.

Becky77 · 07/01/2009 17:11

Plain pasta is a good idea... I may try that tomorrow. Thanks
