stupid questions about purees

i'm finally giving this weaning lark a go & have spent all morning slaving over a hot stove!!! i now have some, what may seem, silly questions about what 2 do with the puree next!
1-does it have 2 b frozen straight away or is it ok 2 keep some in the fridge? if so, for how long?
2-i have a blender but some foods r still lumpy (carrot & apple especially) should purees b totally smooth?
3-what r the sweetest apples that don't need sugar adding cos obvioulsy i can't do thes. don't want 2 give ds a u've been framed moment the 1st time he tries apple!!!
sorry if these seem totally stupid!!

  1. you could keep some in the fridge for a day or 2
  2. maybe the apple and carrot werent cooked for long enough before blending. I got good results with a cheap hand blender.
  3. use a sweet eating apple or try making a mix with pear which is a bit sweeter. Alternatively mix some apple with baby rice as that will tone down the tartness.

yarrow - how old is your lo? from 26 weeks they dont need the smooth purees at all - lumpy is just fine...

and my dd is happy with the tart apples tbh - as long as they are not cookers you will be ok.

1)I've always kept food in the fridge for 24 hours after cooking and in the freezer for 4 weeks.
2)Agree with Seona....maybe try cooking the fruit/veg for a bit longer or just keep blending til its really smooth (I found very smooth purees better for the first attempts at least, lumps can be attempted later!)
3)I've used Golden Delicious or Braeburn or Gala and have mixed them with pear or apricots to make a different taste. Maybe think Granny Smiths too tart and the red apples too floury.

Hope that helps and good luck!

As giantatestacks says, if your lo is 6 months or so the puree needn't be ultra smooth. When I started making them I was really crap and made more of a mash at first. Turned out my dd was able to handle it at 6 months. Give it a go. If the lumps are too lumpy your lo will most likely spit them out.
