Question about hummous

Dd had some hummous on a bread stick at a friends house last week and loved it. It was shop bought so probs high in salt.

How do I make it myself? The chickpeas in tins seem to be in salted water.

How old is your DD? I gave my LOs bought hummous from about 9mths. You can get dried chickpeas which you can soak in water over night (julian graves/ big supermarkets etc) but it is a faff. The salt content should be ok but you could always mix it with sorf cheese or something to 'dilute' it as it were

'soft cheese' sorry

If you are really keen, you can buy dried chickpeas which need to be soaked overnight then boiled before use. The alternative is to rinse tinned ones well

Here's a recipe which I've used before.

I like the Co-op's believe it or not. It depends what your tastes are- I like a reasonably garlicy hummous. Tesco's is ok too.

Tesco Organic chickpeas contain just chickpeas and water.

You can get chickpeas in just water from sainsburys .

Put the following into a blender:
1 drained tin chickpeas
1 crushed garlic clove
Juice of 1/2 lemon
1 teaspoon cumin
6 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon tahini paste

Blend until smooth, adding a little water to thin if need be. You can keep it in the fridge in a sealed container for up to 2 weeks.

It does tase quite different without the heapload of salt you usually get in the processed stuff, but my kids love it.
