6mo possibly allergic to cow's milk protein - problems with breakfast

My 6mo will happily eat the usual root vegetables at lunchtime and sometimes teatime (doesn't always have 3 meals - depends how he is).

It looks like he's allergic to cow's milk protein because when he is spoonfed formula (on its own or in baby rice or porridge stuff) he gets a red rash where it has dribbled on his face. Dr has said that because this doesn't happen with any other food or my milk (he is BF), it sounds like the cow's milk protein allergy. We haven't tried the soya alternative yet, which is what she has suggested.

She said we might have to avoid all dairy produce, but he has had a tiny bit of butter in his veg at lunch to increase the calories and this doesn't seem to have affected him.

Anyway, my real question is - what alternatives do I have for breakfast with this problem? I need alternatives because he doesn't seem to like the usual cereals!!

Toast? That was one of the first finger foods dd took to, and she had a dairy intolerance (now grown out of thankfully)

Pure spreads are a dairy free alternative tp butter made with sunflower or olive oil - you can get them in most supermarkets

Thanks, I'll give that a try. Is toast ok when they don't have teeth at all?

i make porridge with water, and a bit of oat milk to make it "milkier"

or toast, or fruit

I like the sound of oat milk (actually, I don't - but you know what I mean!!!!) so I'll give that a try!!

it's not that bad actually, it makes ok porridge. I prefer rice milk myself, for cereal and stuff. but we get the fortified oat milk so that ds2 gets a bit extra calcium and iron and stuff

made a nice rice pudding with it the other day as well

DS4 has alpro soya yog for brekky, but we are a bit more limited as he uis also gf

DS1 had banana porridge amde with soy milk, toast fingers (wuith egg when old enough) and pancakes, agian made with soy milk- but you could use any milk really, even EBM if wanted.

Rice milk is nice too - not sure if it is OK for babies.

What about fruit and baby rice for breakfast? I buy plastic tubs of fruit in juice and just boil a few pieces each morning, mash it up and then add baby rice to thicken it up. They love it!
