My Dr and HV have advised me to wean DS early. He's 23 weeks tomorrow. He's gone completely off milk. Will only take 1-2 oz ever 4 hours.

I am going to give BLW a shot. Tried some pureed fruit yesterday and today but he just wants to hold the spoon and got upset if I tried to put it to his mouth.

I got some rice cracker things in a cow and gate pack so gave him one of those and he got it to his mouth and had a little suck. I will try some carrot later on today when we have our meal.

This has thrown me a bit. What if he doesn't like it? What can I give him? I've been to ASDA today and got carrot, banana, cheese, humous - all organic just to see how we get on.

My panic I suppose is that we're going from Edinburgh to Manchester for the weekend.

I've got some little pots but can anyone tell me what travels easily for him to have a shot at?

These are probably easy questions to experienced BLW people but I was expecting to have another couple of weeks to prepare!

Thank you.

A nice soft pear and a wee knife to cut it into peices for him. My dd managed pear straight away and it isn't too messy.

When I'm out and about I have a little picnic pack, which has any of the below in it:

Rice crackers
Cheese sticks ( not some mild cheddar pap, make sure its good strong tasty cheese, they love strong flavours)
Cucumber sticks
Cherry tomatoes (just make sure you're not in the firing line when they get squished!)
Baby pittas cut in strips, then you can just dip them in houmous or cream cheese
Pepper sticks
Roasted carrot/Sweet potato sticks
Dried Apricots
Nairns Oat biscuits or rusks, but make sure low salt or unsweetened, none of that faleys rubbish
Small pears, then take a bite out and then give them the whole pear, easier for little hands to eat
Bananas, but be careful with staining they are permanent!!

Hope thats ok, and good luck

before 26 weeks he should not really have gluten

banana is good, steamed carrot, pear also a good one

let him pick it up in pieces and feed himslef, if he can do this, and can sit up and has lost his tongue thrust reflex he is probably ready for solid food

offer milk before food even so

milk is still going to be more calorific even if it is in small amounts, than a bite or two of fruit or veg

if he is happy, healthy, weeing and pooing, then most likely he is taking enough to keep himslef going
