My son is 29 weeks old and is well onto solids no problem I just need some advice on how much solids to give him to be able to wean him off his bottle at meal times.

He has a 6oz bottle when he wakes up then breakfast about an hour later he then has between 3 & 6oz each with lunch & tea and 8oz before bed. Health visitor said as long as he still has bout 20oz of milk a day thats fine but how to I cut that to just morning & night cause he always seems hungry after solids?

(sorry I don't understand the codes so I can't use them)

it is a gradual process so don't be too quick to get rid of the milk feeds. Ds didn't get to 2 feeds till about 10 1/2 months and that was guided by him. As the solids increase then your lo will naturally decrease their milk intake.

I agree with Seona. It's not a race to get them onto solids exclusively - milk should be the main source of nutrition until 1 year anyway. Allow him to have what solids he wants and fill the gaps with milk. Mine is 16 months and still has milk some daytimes if he feels like it. It will sort itself out

My 8mo is still on 3 feeds per day, and sometimes a 4th - he has mainly dropped that lunchtime feed but occasionally wants it. So you might want to wait a while before trying to cut back on his daytime feeds

11 MO DS has only just cut down to 4 feeds per 24 hours - milk is main source of nutrition and energy and you shouldn't cut down any more milk for a while unless your son isn't interested in it.

key thing is let your son decide how much solids to eat. When he is ready to drop some milk and have more food he will eat more and be less interested in his milk, it not something you need to try and guess.

Heard somewhere that offering milk with food hinders iron absorbtion though (could be absolute nonsense mind) so might be an idea to offer the lunch time milk midmorning or mid afternoon instead of with lunch
