Should I give up on BLW and go back to puree???

DD is 7 and a half months. I switched to BLW a couple of weeks ago, after starting on purees, as she was sick if she ate anything remotely lumpy. My hope was that if she was feeding herself, she would be "expecting" the food, so would gag less. But she just keeps biting huge bits off, gagging, looking vaguely distressed and then is very sick. Sometimes she doesn't look bothered by it at all, and picks up the offending item again and carries on; sometimes she stops eating altogether and goes very quiet.

I was so excited by BLW, as compared to purees, as she could get on with it at her own pace, but it's so distressing watching her being sick at every meal.

Any advice? TIA

how long have you been offering finger foods? it does take a little bit of time, and what are you offering? is she gagging every time on every thing?

I'm giving:
toast, steamed veg (broccoli, babycorn, carrots), roast veg (sweet potato, parsnip) rice cakes, fish fingers
I gave her one of those Organix corn ring things today; it seemed to turn to mush, so she demolished it without being sick. The first time.

Sorry, didn't answer all questions!
Been offering finger foods for a couple of weeks now. She has quite a few teeth, so can bite a good chunk off stuff if she wants to.
Gags pretty much every time

I would give it until you have been trying for a month, so a week or two more

was she sicky on milk?
what do you do when she gags?

She is sometimes sick on milk, but only because we haven't burped her soon enough (she's bottle fed), so she's sick when she burps. But she's rarely sick at any other time.
When she gags I try not to make a fuss. I check she's OK, obviously, and clean her up a bit after she's been sick, but I tend to leave her to see what she wants to do.

hmmm, i would be tempted to say she was a 'sicky' child? she may have a sensitive gag reflex.... are you seeing hv/gp anyway soon, might be worth mentioning

you are doing everything right, i would persist for a bit and not let on it bothers you

if in a few weeks it still not working you could try spoon feeding but by this age she should be on mashed foods not puree so i would be tempted to believe that would be more gag inducing than finger food

good luck!
