Raisons - what age?

What age do you think they are ok from? Mainly from a choking point of view? My DD is 11 months? Wondering if they are ok?

if she's got a pincer grip (she should have by that age) then she'll most likely be fine. i'd be more worried about sugar on wee teeth, though, cos they're very sticky. i used to give them to dd when i knew her teeth were due to be cleaned fairly soon.

Sazisi · 30/11/2008 23:41

I gave them to mine at that age, but chopped them up into halves or quarters, otherwise they went straight through iyswim! Also don't give too many because they can stimulate the bowels with dramatic consequences
Never had problems re choking though

stepfordknife · 30/11/2008 23:41

Yes raisins are fine from 11 months

chloemegjess · 30/11/2008 23:44

That is good. Didn't know about the sugar, I was trying to think of healthy snacks! lol.

She does had pincher grip. And eats various types of food with her hand and fed from a spoon

rice cakes? carrot sticks? celery, cucumber, clementine, nana etc? i musst say i did give my dd1 sultanas etc, but just be wary on the tooth front.

chloemegjess · 30/11/2008 23:57

She eats lots of fresh fruit and rice cakes. I just mainly like things I can stick in the nappy bag and leave there and use when needed iyswim? So something other than fresh fruit but still quite healhy.

chloemegjess · 30/11/2008 23:57

Meant to say, what is nana?

S1ur · 01/12/2008 00:00

yup, fine and neat for pincer grasp;
Oh like wot Aitch said

And err, also like Aitch said, yes sticky sugar. Gah just trying to have an original thought here and that there Aitch has pipped me.

Okay, Cheese! my thought, little squares of cheese or if out and about those fairly pointlessly expensive individually wrapped cheeses.

chloemegjess · 01/12/2008 00:03

Those cheeses still need to be kept in the firdge though. She has cheese at home (although not too keen on cold cheese on its own) but I want something that has a long date, not for fridge etc. So can stick in nappy bag and use whenever. Maybe that day, maybe a week late etc

Aitch · 01/12/2008 00:04

DAMMIT. forgot cheese. then i would have defeated the slur.

banana, sorry. i tend to write nana because i have found that when i type banana i spell it banaba and have to correct it. as i just did. twice.

Aitch · 01/12/2008 00:05

long term you're looking at raisins and rice cakes, deffo. and those ghastly crips things.

Aitch · 01/12/2008 00:05

CRISPS

chloemegjess · 01/12/2008 00:08

oh right! DIdn't realise you were saying banana at all! Trying to avaoid banana at the mo due to consitpation problems.

OP posts:
Aitch · 01/12/2008 00:09

well, i was of course saying banaba.

prunes? i used to keep prunes and brazil nuts. some people worry about brazil nuts for choking though, but i didn't. [cavalier]

S1ur · 01/12/2008 00:14

nah cheeses don't need to be in fridge (though granted a cool larder is hard to carry around with you)

okay then, breadsticks (mini ones) and yeah (Aitch ) those organix we are made from carrot oddities. and maybe cracker sandwiches with cream cheese wrapped in clingfilm.

chloemegjess · 01/12/2008 00:16

What is the whole thing with those organix stuff? The various packs of finger foods? ARe they actually healthy or what? DD has had some occasionally but we tend to stick to their rice cakes

OP posts:
Aitch · 01/12/2008 00:23

i viruously kept dd off them to dissuade her form liking crisps. she LOVES crisps now so it was only a temporary ban. but they do make a horrible smelly mess imo and are v expensive. dd used to have plain oatcakes as well as a quick snack.

cmotdibbler · 01/12/2008 08:47

Dried apple is a great snack, non messy, and lurks in your bag. Also dried pears, apricots and figs.

DS really likes mini cheddars, and rather than the rank Organix crisps, I give him a few Salt n Shake crisps that I haven't added the salt to.
