Once you started weaning did your previously non-routine baby start to be a bit more predictable?

Just wondering. DS2 is fabulously unpredictable, he has no particular regular pattern to his naps/bf's. Did weaning make a difference to your baby if also like mine? I'm hoping that once he has regular mealtimes, his milk feeds and naps might be a bit more consistent. Please tell me that they will!!!

Nope. Sorry !

My ds was in a strict routine from very early, but the routine changed frequently. My mum always said that things would settle down once on solids and there'd be less of everything up in the air.

Should have probably told you what happened!
He would eat at the same time every day and sleep at the same time every day, but he'd always been like that as I fed to routin from birth and not on demand.

Definitely helped with DD1...until I weaned her, I fed her on demand, and she slept where and when she wanted to, and rarely in her cot as we were often out and about. Once she was weaned, we had three relatively regular meal times, which mean that snacks/milk feeds became a bit more regular as well. Naps were still a bit hit and miss in length though. And it took another few months before she slept through .

Mine did!

DS2 always fed and slept on demand and was completely random in his timings!
Soon as he was weaned he became a lot more predictable as I always offered him food at the same times as DS1 (breakfast lunch and tea) as long as he was awake (and as soon as he woke up if he wasnt) and he then started fitting in his milk dmeands and sleeps around the food times!
He is 9 months now and still has the three meals at set times and has him milk and sleep in between to within a half hour of a predictable time, so much easier to antcipate!

I found weaning definitely helped with routine, yes. The set mealtimes really helped with naps... she knew when they were coming so was much happier to be put down for a sleep. Good luck.

2point4kids · 27/11/2008 08:52

mine still doesnt sleep through though

PuppyMonkey · 27/11/2008 09:03

mine did start sleeping through for the first time after I weaned too. I know most folk on MN don't have this happy experience, so keep that to yourself...

peachsmuggler · 27/11/2008 20:15

Definitely! Didn't have much of a routine before but once we started weaning, well actually more when we had worked up to 3 meals a day, DD started having regular naps and kind of regular milk feeds, if only because having 3 meals a day meant there were only certain times we could really fit the other stuff in!!!

sunshine75 · 28/11/2008 09:11

Yes, Yes, Yes.

Daytimes naps are not a battle anymore and the other day I thought - omg she is a Gina Ford baby today (I have never tried to do GF by the way!!)

She has also (for the last 2 nights anyway) dropped the night feed!!

Fingers crossed then
