Hello. DD has mostly weetabix but I want to start cutting down on it as I think this is what is causing her upset tummy. She also has ready brek and oatabix.

We always have a pack of the baby cereal you mix with water incase we have no full fat milk (although she will soon be on cows milk properly so will make sure it is always in the house!).

I just want some more idea, but when I look in the shops, I never know what actually doesn't have much sugar/salt in as some can appear healthy but are actually not at all.

She is fine with lumps if they are softish although didn't go down too well when we tried cheeros, will try again tomorrow as it has been a while.

She does have finger foods - will eat fruit etc by the bucket load given half the chance. But when given toast or a sanwich or something she usually eats a tiny bit and then throws it on the floor.

She has low weight gain so something nice and high cal would be great.

Sorry for the long post!

I'll probably be told I'm out of date and that an 11 month old can't, as my youngest is 10 now and I am out of touch, but all my 3 used to love Readybrek.

We usually give ours cereal (usually weetabix), yoghurt or fromage frais, toast with butter + marmalade (some does go on the floor still but the twins have got sooo much better at eating it over the past few months...)

Croissants/pain chocolat are great cos they can tear little pieces off and feed themselves. Thin slices of cheese / ham / salami? Soft fruit like peaches or pureed apples? Little bits of baguette with soft cheese?

Reading back what I've written makes me feel a bit sad cos ours only tend to get the second paragraph stuff when we are on holiday - will make an effort to vary it a bit more!

What about porridge?

Spoonful of oats in a bowl, cover with a good splash of her usual milk and nuke for 30 seconds, stir and nuke for another 15, stir and nuke some more if required. Then add a splash of milk and some fruit and off you go. No nasty additives because you made it all yourself

Mushrooms sauteed in butter (DD1's fave}
Eggy bread
Scrambled egg

simpson · 23/11/2008 22:37

Toast
Crumpets
Chopped fruit
Larger cereal that can be picked up pincer grip style ie rice crispies, mini shredded wheats etc (put small amount of milk to soften it first)

weebump · 23/11/2008 22:39

Yep, readybrek with banana and cinnamon is a hit with my lil 11 month old. Today's treat was french toast. Yuuuuuummmy. You could also try scrambled eggs. Also, Kellogs do mini shredded wheat with raisin inside (can't remember what they're called) which soak up milk and work well as little finger foods. You could try offering the cheerios on her tray so she can pick them up with her fingers. I find my lo does better with lumps if she can pick them up herself rather than be fed them.

chloemegjess · 23/11/2008 22:45

Thanks for the ideas.

She does occasionally have scrambled egg, usually if we go out for breakfast but doesn't eat more than a few spoonfulls. Where as porridge etc she eats lots and it is her biggest meal in the day

anothe rvote for mini shredded wheat - dd likes the plain ones (and they ahev no salt or sugar, yay) btu there are also raisin- and apricot-filled versions

cover with milk, microwave 20-25sec then pour most of the milk off (usu into my coffee

Cheese on toast
Sausages cut into smallish pieces
Rice cakes with soft cheese (not really breakfasty but quick and easy)
Banana with a bread roll

My DD was the same with toast (eat a bit then throw away) I started cutting it into strips and putting some spagetti (great stuff one from asda) on it o soften it up - very messy! but she seems to eat it a lot better

chloemegjess · 23/11/2008 23:45

kelix - do you know any sausages that are healthy and not full of salt and other random bits of crap? I think she would like them but I would worry about giving her them often unless we found a healthy option.

My two love avocado and banana mush. Also ready break. We are tryring to wean them onto grown up porridge. Rice crispies, Croissants, Scotch pancakes, toast, greek yoghurt and prunes (or any tinned fruit in juice wizzed up a bit), ground rice or semolina in the microwave and last nights left over dinner they have all tried. Really like greek yog and fruit though.

Kelix · 24/11/2008 00:25

these arnt too bad

or you can make your own if you have the time

chloemegjess · 24/11/2008 08:25

Kelix, your link just says the session is timed out. Sorry!

Will get some crumpets when I go shopping as this has reminded me that when DD had them last, she did really like them.

Link was for asda healthy eating sausages. They have less fat & salt (althoug there is still quite a bit of salt)

Crumpets are a great idea. Gonna buy some today DD has never tried them (poor child lol)

MERLYPUSS · 24/11/2008 19:57

What about veggie sausages? Are they any better?

FeelingLucky · 24/11/2008 20:06

nut free muesli
