Advice on weaning from phn - is it wrong & why?

My public health nurse - Irish equiv of health visitor - has just been to do the 3 month check on my baby boy who is 15 weeks old. I asked her about weaning.

She said not before four months, not after six.
She said start with puree, no finger food till seven months.
She said I can use cow's milk at six months to mix cereal etc.

Can someone tell me whether any or all of this is definitely wrong? I did gently query her but I am sooooo polite, I am not much use at finger wagging and correction - am not sure of info anyway. I get different advice every way I turn but I got very clear answer to my q's, as above, and I want to do the right thing so naturally I will do as MN advises rather than follow govt. guidelines.

Too tired to type very clear sentences, hope gist seeps through.

She is nearly right

Certainly do not start before 4m
Between 4 & 6m is contentious but there is no evidence of harm in waiting till 6m and there may be risks in starting before, so both the UK govt and thw WHO recommend waiting till 6m
But you can wait longer if ds isn;t interested
You can give finger foods from 6m or as early as he can pick them up and get them in his mouth - dd never had puree in her life. Self-feeding from the start is sometimes called Baby Led Weaning (BLW) - more here
You can use cows' milk in cooking from 6m

Excellent evidence-based advice from Kellymom here
