started yesterday - evening meals only so far.. has played with carrot, cucumber, roast potato and sweet potato - loves sitting in his high chair when we have tea! do you think it's ok to just offer food at one meal for a wee while?

i'm just a worry wart and am thinking that i won't get it right and not do the best for him?! (i know i'm mad - bear with me!).
also he's at nursery three dats a week and i have spoken to them about it and they say 'oh tes rhats fine what ever you want.. but they've never done it before... i think i'll write some stuff down for them... what do you think?

sorry just feeling anxious and for the life of me can't think why!! he does seem to love it though....
thanks

when we started BLW I offered food every time DS was awake at a meal-time. As they eat such small amounts I thought it wouldn't overload his system that much and little and often would be a good thing.
You are totally doing the best thing, if you need a bit more reassurance on BLW, I'd definitely get the book as it will help you explain BLW to others too, including your nursery. I would write it out for them as they probably don't understand what it is and that babies can really feed themselves.

my nursery were great re blw - mostly they just gave her a 'toddler' meal from the next age group up so she had potato wedges, chicken casserole, fruit salad etc

the biggest thing for them was the mess - much worse than popping spoons of puree into open mouths

thanks - i've got the book (trying to get hubby to read it to stop him asking 400 questions every mealtime!!) - as you can tell i'm just anxious for no good reason really just my general disposition i guess.

I hope it goes ok at nursery... i want to stay for a while to see!

I offer henry food after his milk.. in the evening he normally has his last feed at 7 and then we have dinner - i know a LOT of babies have their 'dinner at 4 ish 5 ish' - so my question is - (sorry to ramble so) it's not too late is it? 9 times out of 10 he's awake then anyway.....

New things I would offer in the morning just so you have all day to see if it agrees with him or not rather than a sleepless night. Personally I wouldn't feed them anything 'meal-like' that late at night although for the social aspect perhaps give him a bowl of cereal or some such to munch on while you have your tea.

Sounds like the nursery are supportive but I would definately give them some reading material. Regarding meals - I have always weaned from four months (so shoot me) and introduced meals very gradually. I started with tea too actually and dd1 and dd3 weren't on three meals a day till past 9 months. Personally if Henry is used to that routine I don't see why you should offer food earlier than 7ish. If he's eating with you thats obviously easier and more social for all of you.

We had he same with nursery. I printed the gill rapley guidelines off the web. they were a bit confused at first and were trying to feed him whole boiled potatoes until I explained that mash is fine!!!!!!!

Anyway they soon worked out what he liked to eat and it has all been fine.

re late suppers. I try to feed ds his supper after nursery at 6-7ish, sometimes more like 7.30 or 8, but sometimes he is just too tired to eat. Other times he seems hungry and wolfs it down. See how your dc manages, you know your child best.
