Not sure if right place - 7 mnth food after tummy bug

Not sure if this is the right place to post this. If not please can you point me in the right direction?

My 7 month old is just getting over a tummy bug and is completely off his food. Have been weaning since 5 months and he is a very big baby, or he was, and quite happy to eat just about anything. Any suggestions on how I can get him back on his solids?

Cheers,

BR

I had exactly the same prob with my nearly 8 month dd. She had gastroenteritis and basically gave up on solids during the couple of weeks she was ill. She lived on breastmilk alone. The doc told us it wasn't a problem but that when she was better we might have to sort of wean her again to get her back onto solid foods. She was certainly dodgy for a few days and didn't like lumps (we had to go back to really smooth purees) but as soon as she was truly over the bug and back to her bouncy, hungry self she got back on track pretty quickly.
You say your ds is 'just getting over a tummy bug'. If he's not actually completely 100% better don't be surprised if he's still a little funny about food. I'm sure he'll get there in the end. Just keep offering him things you know he likes (rather than worrying about balanced meals) and if he was happy to eat anything before there's no reason why he won't return to that in the end.
Just one other thing - don't rush him. Our doc said it can take babies a long time to fully get better from a tummy bug. It def took my dd a good 3 weeks from beginning to end.

Hi Juliebat,
Thanks for the advice. Gives me hope!!

DS2 has gastroenteritis too and this is the 6th day. I came back to work from maternity leave just over a week ago so DS2 is on a bottle now and is supposed to be at nursery. He hasn't thrown up since yesterday morning so I'm hoping it's run it's course (although DH is now being 'untidy') but I'm worried that the only thing he seems to be interested in is sweet stuff. Have heard this so many times before from other people, but just not prepared for it as DS1 was never sick and I don't think he's refused a meal in 5 years.

Not sure how to cope with weaning again as I'm now at work. The nursery are very helpful though so I think I'll have a word.

Thanks again (breaths sigh of relief)

BR

I wouldn't worry about giving him sweet stuff if thats what he wants. If we're ill we don't necessarily feel like eating normal meals so we shouldn't expect our babies too. He'll get back onto a range of things just as soon as he's properly better.
6 days is not long to recover from g/enteritis so I would expect a good few days more of being off food.

I'd provide nursery with a range of food you know he likes and just try to get anything into him. Although, as with most things, hydration is most important so if he's having a bottle thats good.

My dd turned her nose up at most savoury things while she was ill but I knew she was totally better when she wolfed down fish pie with brocolli cheese one night! He'll do the same soon, don't worry.

Thank you so much!!
I know he's my second but, like I said, I have no experience with the fussy food thing. As to what he likes to eat, just about anything really!!

Have spoken to nursery and they're absolutely fine with it. He drinks plenty of water from a cup too so is well hydrated....

Only worrying thing is I have tummy ache!

Oh no, I really hope not! I caught my dd's g/enteritis and it was HIDEOUS! Just being ill while looking after a baby (she's my first) was horrible. I was really nauseous the whole time too but because b/f was the only nutrition and hydration she was getting, I had to force myself to eat (not usually a problem!)

Fingers crossed for you that it's all in your mind!
