My baby doesn't want to feed herself - is this abnormal?

DD is nearly 7 months, we have been weaning for a month, on purees as she showed no interest in bits of veg, bread etc. She has only recently been able to sit up unaided, if that's relevant, and she still needs lots of cushions around, just in case she topples.
She seems to like purees and yoghurts, likes a variety of flavours, and if I hold it and feed it to her, she will chew away on bread and rice cakes.
But she refuses to hold the food herself and eat it herself. A bit of bread on the highchair tray will be picked up and examined, and more often than not, dropped on the floor. I have no concerns about her hand/eye coordination, as all manner of toys go straight in her mouth!
She already has 6 teeth, so it's frustrating that she's not using them! Some of her little friends of the same age will happily feed themselves - is there anything I should or could be doing? Thanks x

erm , she is a 6 month old baby, of course it is not abnormal don;t worry comparing her to other babies, at this age, milk is still the main source of nutrition and continues to be so for the first year.. if she is only just able to sit unaided, she is probably just getting ready to go onto being able to pick up food etc, just keep offering finger food and don;t worry [smile0

I have to say she sounds perfectly normal to me! Both my ds's did things at totoally different rates. Ds 1 was on purees for what seemed like ever whereas ds 2 took to real food straight away and we don;t puree anything. As for the sitting up ds 2 only managed that confidently at 11 months so don;t worry about that either. Have you checked in with your health visitor?

It's ridiculous how much you compare babies, isn't it?? And with the wonders of the internet I have even more babies to compare mine to!! Thanks I think I'll just be proud of her early teeth, and not worry too much just yet about the finger food!

my DCs had two teeth until they were well over a year old... 6 is good going , obviously a sign of your amazing parenting

My dd got to a year old with no teeth. I'm a terrible parent.

Hi toastaddict. Perfectly normal behavious IMO. DS1 never wanted to feed himself & DS2 doesn't show any signs of wanting to either. Then again he can't sit unaided & may or may not try it when he sees fit Don't worry about it - & I'm with Scorpio, come back to postnatal
