Just cooked the porridge according to instructions on the packet before looking at Aitch's blog where it suggests microwaving for about a minute. Have microwaved for 4 mins. Looks ok though. Is it worth putting in the fridge or am I best to start again?

come on ladies or I'll have to make my own decision

what does it taste like?

MrsJamin · 08/11/2008 09:43

It depends how thinly you have it over your bowl/plate - I make it really thin - only 1cm deep so it needs about 2 mins - any longer and it starts to get very dry and sticks to the plate. It took me about 4-5 goes to make a decent one as porridge and microwaves vary. If it looks edible I'd offer it!

I was just going to post on Aitch's forum to ask what the heck is a porridge pancake? Can you enlighten me op or someone else?

MrsJamin · 09/11/2008 08:45

The recipe is on Aitch's forum under recipes, or on the blog here. I use 3 tablespoons of porridge to 6 tablespoons of milk.

MrsBadger · 09/11/2008 08:47

I could never get them to work

dd has mini shredded wheats instead - splosh with milk to soften them first

SoupDragon · 09/11/2008 08:58

Yes, needs to be in a shallow container. And if you put too much banana in it it won't set at all (BabyDragon wouldn't eat them plain so I added banana. she wouldn't eat those either as it happens but [shrug])

MrsJamin · 09/11/2008 09:16

I add finely grated apple to give it a bit of flavour. How did yours come out MrsBadger? I alternate porridge and shredded wheat for breakfasts, I need to come up with some new ideas or DS will get really bored!

MrsBadger · 09/11/2008 09:41

they were either too wet to hold together or too dry for dd's taste

I alternate the shredded wheast with toast and hummus / cream cheese / etc

gave it to her, she sniffed it, sucked it and spat it out then flung it on the floor. I'm guessing she prefers the toast and banana breakfast combo she's been having to date. Tried the porridge as was worrying about too much bread as she often has toast as part of her tea too.
Hey she's been wowing both sets of grandparents this weekend by nagging on a chunk of roast lamb, some casseroled beef and eating a whole roast potato! I think we have some 60 year old blw converts

that seems like quite a normal reaction to a new food/texture, I'd give it again. I have lost count of how many times I've offered lumps of cheese and they have been brushed aside, but I figure sooner or later DS will like it.
Great about the grandparents, I find people lose their scepticism about BLW once they actually see a baby feed themselves. Roast dinner was the first whole meal DS could eat, they're great.
