not if i can help it.

hunkermunker · 13/10/2008 22:14

I understand, DB. But I do have a Proper Reason for asking, honest

DS is due a 15 month check (note to self, must book it!) so I'll ask them then. Not that, as far as they were concerned, the weaning age was ever anything but 4 months. "Well, yesssssss, I suppose you could wait until 6 months ... but you'll have to give her a taste of some veg or something, so she gets used to it"

I got all worried until some kind MNer pointed out that although she hadn't tasted aubergine until she was 21, she didn't miss her "aubergine window"

I digress. I will ask her, I promise.

hunkermunker · 13/10/2008 22:40

Hmm, yes, good point - I might amend the question so it's "changing from six months". Because if HVs of the more lunatic persuasion are giving out four months anyway...

Thank you!

Hi! I am trying to avoid HV at the minute, only 4 weeks to go!! But I can go on monday if you like?? You want us to ask IF it is changing, and WHY?? I take it it's wrong info then?

scorpio1 · 14/10/2008 09:26

cyteen · 14/10/2008 09:34

simpson · 14/10/2008 17:52

Am seeing Hv on Fri will also try and remember to ask!!

hunkermunker · 14/10/2008 20:42

Thanks again.

The information and guidance is not changing, but some health visitors are erroneously saying it is.

lulumama · 14/10/2008 20:44

i won;t be as DD is now 3, but i can call my HV and ask from a professional point of view as i do talk about weaning with clients.

hunkermunker · 14/10/2008 20:48

Yes, please, LM!

Can people also ask their friends/relatives with babies what they're being told?

OP posts:
Aitch · 14/10/2008 20:49

that's a great page from lll, hunker.

Ewe · 14/10/2008 20:50

I am going to the baby clinic tomorrow with my seven month old (they want me d
oing weekly weigh ins as she is petite ) - happy to ask my HV.

They are all fecking useless though and didn't seem to be particularly aware that it is at six months now let alone changing back again!

traceybath · 14/10/2008 20:55

Lordy no - even though she's actually very nice.

I was regarded as a rare creature - like a unicorn in a forest as i excl bf until 6 months by HV .

Mine is pretty up to date though although prone to doing the whole 'do what makes mummy happy' thing.

PumpkinPatty · 14/10/2008 20:59

I was told 4 months by my health visitor - that was a year ago though.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 14/10/2008 21:01

will ask next week although HV did say 10 weeks ago at 6 week check that weaning is still reccommended at 6 months.

Megglevache · 14/10/2008 21:02

We had this conversation at school not too long ago. Aparently 4 months and I was told 16 weeks with dd (16 months)

hunkermunker · 14/10/2008 21:08

Hmm, wondering how if I should be asking for people who are told it's 4m, with no mention of 6m at all [edits post]

OP posts:
lulumama · 14/10/2008 21:09

why would they be doing that though?: what gain by telling them it is 4 months or it is changing..

Aitch · 14/10/2008 21:10

because sometimes i think HCPs learn more by chinese whispers than actual training...

hunkermunker · 14/10/2008 21:11

Because they're not interested in keeping their practice up-to-date? Because they don't want to be questioned? And because "they did it with their children and it didn't do them any harm".

Because bf/weaning advice from HCPs is often far too informed by their own experience, as we know.

SharpMolarBear · 14/10/2008 21:11

I missed my aubergine window, lucky I ducked in time!

Fillyjonk · 14/10/2008 21:29

hunker i am very confused

do you want me to ask my hv about weaning at 4 months?

I will, once dd2 has gotten her head around solids and stopped embarassing me by eating citrus in front of my scary hv. (she is 8 months. apparently I have gotten weaning very wromg. to be fair, i did kind of forget to do it. perhaps i am not the best one to ask...)
