When is honey okay to give your baby...?

My DH has very kindly just come back from town with what appears to be the bestest(sic), most bio-organic, gluten free muesli type cereal for our 7mth old.... but in the ingredients it says 'honey', but not how much.

I doubt it is very much, but something tells me honey is a big no-no for babies younger than a year. Am I right? Is a tiny bit okay?
What are the health implications?

Or is it fine, and I am worrying unduly?

It can contain botchalism so isn't safe for babies.

you're right, the bacteria in honey can cause botulism, however, some people disagree, me on the other hand decided to stay on they safe side and waited until ds was 12 months.

Excuse my atrocious spelling

OverMyDeadBody · 08/07/2008 14:36

no honey till a year.

Botulism is a real risk and not a nice thing. Their guts aren't capable of protecting them from botulism sporesuntil after they are a year old.

Bugger.

It is SO hard to find decent baby food over here. I make my own everything else, but it's impossible to find decent, purest of the pure, organic-no crap breakfasts, pastas, baby rice etc etc etc.... oh, how I long for the choice in the UK.

In the town we live in there is one health food shop, which has a very limited selection of foods suitable for babies, and the one thing that looks ideal turns out to have flippin' honey in it!!??!! I mean, seriously?

Gggrrr... back to the drawing board.
