Should I start giving 8mth DS food snacks now?

Hi, my 8 month old DS seems to be dropping his mid AM and mid PM milk feeds now (we only really do them at home now and he is fine without then when we are out and about). I was just wondering if I should be replacing these with a food snack now? He is on 3 meals a day BTW. What are good things to offer as a snack? Thanks.

I would offer a drink (water) and a snack if he was dropping his milk feeds.

Digestive
Rich Tea
Humzinger
Raisin's
Breadsticks
Dried apricots
Rice cakes
Chopped fruit and veg

What on earth is a Humzinger?

Are you only offering snacks if he is hungry and asking for it. Because if not I personally don't know why you would want to introduce a snacking habit. I don't understand these kids crawling around with rice cakes permanently hanging out their mouths.

All the above ideas are great for snakc though if he is hungry...although I would be weary of dried fruit unless you have facilities close at hand to brush his teeth afterwards as they are really bad on teeth as full of sugar and sticky so get stuck on them.

yes, whats a humzinger?!

Humzingers are pulped fruit sticks. They come in lots of different flavours and are really rather nice!

Probably more important that he has a drink of water? And maybe some fruit?

My DD - almost 8 months too - has recently dropped her pm milk feed, (I still offer it just in case, but am beginning to think it's pointless) but I offer a drink of water and some cut up fruit instead if she refuses it.

He's probably not hungry as such, if he's refusing milk, but it's important to make sure he keeps hydrated... and fruit is always good, right?

That's what I'm doing, anyhow, but I'm about as far from an expert as it's possible to get...

I think once they're on solids then it's important to introduce extra fluids - regardless of whether they're BF or FF. Which makes sense, if you think about it, because previously their only food source was fluid based and now theres a lot less fluid in their food... ??

Does that make sense? I think I've managed to make it sound more complicated than it is in my head...
