Can I freeze formula?

I've just started weaning ds and am still breastfeeding; he doesn't drink any formula. However, I can't express milk very well so I've been buying the little cartons of ready made stuff and adding it to his baby rice etc but am only using a tiny amount. As I can only keep the carton in the fridge for 24 hours, this means I'm throwing most of it away so I wondered if I could freeze some in ice cube trays? I really don't know anything about formula as I've never used it before...
Maybe I should just stick to fruit and veg puree!

If he's over 6 months then I would not bother with formula as cow's milk is fine in food from 6 months.

oh and yes, I wouldn't bother with the baby rice.

I think you can only freeze formula if it is mixed in food - I dont think you can freeze it in milk form.

Thanks. Think I will just collect some bm in breast shells -I leak anyway!- and freeze that for a few weeks until I can use cows milk. Am going to try some apple/pear etc in the next few days so I might not need the milk much anyway

Can you not just use water when making baby rice, I really don't remember!

chloemegjess · 03/07/2008 12:30

I just used water when I didnt have any expressed milk. Now I use cows milk (or breastmilk if I have some expressed or havent been shopping!)

Water is fine, as long as they are still getting the milk the rest of the time

Why not ust buy powder formula and then you can just make up 3/4oz or whatever?

Seona1973 · 04/07/2008 20:07

the powder needs to be used within 4 weeks of opening and if there is only a few ounces being made at a time you could end up having to throw most of it away.
