Oh wow, these things are brilliant! Nice and soft/squidgy enough so that they are easy for gummy babies to chew and swallow, but still firm enough so that they don't fall apart too easily. We smear Philly on them - the perfect BLW food!!

yep, you can make bubble and squeak cakes too

cardy · 01/07/2008 12:02

Do you make them or buy them ready made?

Tinkjon · 01/07/2008 12:04

I bought them ready-made, from Asda.

That sounds good, I have been looking for some good finger foods for my DD. Are they heathly? As in, do they have preservatives etc in?

Aitch · 01/07/2008 16:05

veeery good, tinkjon, but beware the salt content, it can be horrifying. there's a recipe on the blog for home-made. i think under potato scones, which is the proper (scottish ) name. really, really, really easy and freezable.

Tinkjon · 01/07/2008 20:55

These ones seem ok to me, salt-wise. Alrthough I'm never sure of the difference between sodium content and salt content - which one is supposed to be 1g or less for babies? One of the ones I have has a quarter of ds's daily allowance and he only eats one. Aitch, I thought about making them but every pancakey-sconey thing I make for him gets chucked away (I was so excited about the spinach pancakes on your blog but ds apparently wasn't )

They have potassium sorbate in but nothing else weird. I know that's probably enough to put a lot of people off though!

they're really just dry pan-fried mashed potato and flour tbh, there's not much margin for error. ditch the salt and i personally use a dry pan to cook them

Tinkjon · 02/07/2008 11:12

Thanks Aitch, will check that recipe out.

that's write, hana, but I'm not sure what the guideline of 1g per day is - sodium or salt. I think it's salt...
