Advice needed on a few questions....

Hello. I have a 6mo who is on 3 meals a day and I have a few questions:

-Can I freeze banana and strawberries pureed together?

-The cow and gate advert implied that weetabix is too salty, is this right?

  • yogurts - I intended to give natural yogurt, but I can only find big 500g pots, that then need to be used within 3 days of opening, so most gets wasted. I have given a couple of tesco value fromais frai -Are they really that bad with a healthy diet?
  • My HV has advised to give my DD lots of high calorie foods, as she has a low weight gain. She said to add cheese etc to stuff, give yogurts etc Is this ok and will it give her bad habits in future?
  • Have tried with a few finger foods, its not that she can't eat it, she can, but 90% ends up on the floor within a few mins, this seems alot of waste and is whats making me not want to bother! But have always wanted my DD to have finger foods as early as possible.
  • My friend (with my permission) gave my DD one of the flavoured baby rice cakes, which she loved. I have since bought a pack of (adult) rice cakes, which are plain and unsalted. They are easier to hold as they are big (broken into about 3 bits) and they are so much cheaper. But she didnt seem to be as interested. Shall I buy the baby ones?
  • I know I can add cows milk to cereal etc, but would breastmilk be better? I usually have some in the fridge, but would have to buy whole milk specially, as we drink skimmed. But if its better then we are more than happy to buy it.
  • Is ready break ok or is it sugary?
  • What "meals" can I make an freeze? As currently we are mainly doing plain veg etc
  • When do you introduce "pudding" I am talking about a yougurt or fruit puree after a savoury meal? We currently do it instead?

Sorry for all the questions!

-Can I freeze banana and strawberries pureed together? I wouldn't freeze bananas.
-The cow and gate advert implied that weetabix is too salty, is this right? Yes.

  • yogurts - I intended to give natural yogurt, but I can only find big 500g pots, that then need to be used within 3 days of opening, so most gets wasted. I have given a couple of tesco value fromais frai -Are they really that bad with a healthy diet? I wouldn't use them to be honest, I would look for small Yeo Valley ones.
  • My HV has advised to give my DD lots of high calorie foods, as she has a low weight gain. She said to add cheese etc to stuff, give yogurts etc Is this ok and will it give her bad habits in future? No, My son is prem, I have to give him a high dairy fat diet, this is about now, not 5 yrs time, there will come a time, when you temper the high dairy fat diet, now is not the time.

  • Is ready break ok or is it sugary? to sugary, try baby rice.
  • What "meals" can I make an freeze? As currently we are mainly doing plain veg etc most dinners, ie shep pie, etc, but with no salt and baby gravy which is resonably priced. pasta dishes, again no salt.
  • When do you introduce "pudding" I am talking about a yougurt or fruit puree after a savoury meal? We currently do it instead? when she is ready for more food. Its been a while since I started weening, sorry I haven't a clue. But, I am sure that I gave both dinner and pud at lunch, and only sweet or savoury for supper.
Sorry i can't be more help.

-weetabix is not too salty - 1 biscuit has only 1/8th of a gram of salt and at that age my ds only ate 1/3rd to 1/2 of a biscuit

-ready brek has no added salt or sugar so cant possibly be too sugary

-yes you can freeze potato (but mash it rather than pureeing it as it goes very gloopy)

-I think ds was a few months older before he got a meal and pudding. I think it was when he still seemed hungry after his savoury meal so out came the yoghurt/fruit puree

-I gave finger foods alongside puree from 6 months and it gets them used to feeding themselves but with no pressure.

-you can use breastmilk in cereal but I used full fat cows milk from 6 months as it is easier - a 1 pint bottle/carton would last a few days.

-I did use small yoghurts like muller little stars as I wasnt going to faff about with big cartons of yoghurt and fruit puree. Our local supermarkets dont stock much of the other less sugary ones that people on here mention.
