Grr, I have abandoned the tripp trapp and bought Ikea antilop

I liked the principle of ds sitting at the table with us, but he just pushes finger food off the table onto the floor. With a tray, he can push food around without it falling off quite so often. And we can finally avoid him pushing his feet against the table edge and sliding the tripp trapp backwards.

Should have listened to the consensus on here and got the antilop in the first place!

I am very glad you posted this as have just spent the afternoon justifying the Tripp Trapp to myself and was unaware of the Ikea Antilop. What a total bargain, we can get 1 for the Gramps' house too !!

Sorry for you 'tho

hercules1 · 22/06/2008 16:09

We gave away a more expensive high chair that had been given to us and got the ikea one. Brilliant highchair. My sister bought a very expensive one too and then got an ikea one too.

missorinoco · 22/06/2008 16:11

i am looking at the antilop and thinking you may well be right.
(i also have a trip trapp and a ds who slides backwards across the room, scattering food as he goes.)

Neney1 · 23/06/2008 22:00

Oh thank god you posted this!! I have been feeding DS on the floor, on my lap, even in the now-too-small bumbo, anything to avoid my TT. It never occured to me to get a cheap one from ikea!!

I'll be keeing the TT though, apparently they are fabulous for older children! I'll give it another go when food does not get wiped from table to floor in one fluid movement!

We also ditched a very expensive highchair in favour of an antilop. Oh and just so you know, you can remove the legs and stick the top in the dishwasher (then you don't have to scrub it down to often to dislodge the crap under the tray!)

We have both (used the Tripp Trapp for DS1 and Antilop for DS2) and found the Antilop good for DS2 from 6-12 months.
However, DS2 (13 months) is quite strong and not too keen on being hemmed in and managed to pull himself out of his Antilop chair yesterday and nearly fell on the floor (I caught him just in time).
So am using the Tripp Trapp for him now - it's much better for houdinis (harder to get out of) and it lasted DS1 till he was 3.5 so I think its a good chair for later on.

ApuskiDusky · 24/06/2008 09:33

Yes, LL, I ignored your Svan advice on here too, in my 'I don't want a tray' misguidedness...

Well, I won't ebay the TT just yet, if there's a chance he'll prefer it to the antilop a bit later. Now we just need to put it somewhere.

I also have a barely used TT here - dd hated it . I'm hoping it will come in useful when she's a bit older though

BlueDragonfly · 24/06/2008 09:54

oooh tell me about the Svan. have been looking at a tripp trapp lookalikey but wondered about food. I don't like the antilop and we would need an extra chair around teh table anyway (or a bigger table)

ApuskiDusky · 24/06/2008 10:06

Svan:

I think it looks like the best TT lookalike if you're keen on a tray. And littlelapin rates it!!

i have no idea what a tripp trapp is? my high chair cost me £45 from tesco. it has a removeable tray but doesnt stop dd2 throwing her food on the floor.

Hulababy · 24/06/2008 10:10

For those still considering the TT:

Have had a TT since DD was 5 months - she in now 6y. And never had any problems with it; been in amost daily use since it was bought and still looks great and is in fab condition. Now also using it, with a harness, for the baby I look after once a week.

I hate the idea of highchairs with trays where baby sits apart from the family table.

BlueDragonfly · 24/06/2008 10:11

£147!!!!!!!????????????????

think i will stick to the tesco tripp trapp lookalike at £27

ApuskiDusky · 24/06/2008 10:15

Yes, the Svan is a costalike as well as a lookalike!

mybabysinthegarden · 24/06/2008 10:15

But you can take the tray off the antilop and push it up to the table if you want.

bumpbumpbump · 24/06/2008 11:26

Antilop sounds perfect!! How much floorspace do they take up - ie. roughly what's the distance between the front legs and the back legs? Some ordinary high chairs seem to stretch out loads in terms of floor space!!

Is the Ikea Antilop the white plastic one? I got one for at my mum's house but the tray kept falling off it. Is there a trick to keeping hte tray on? I think we may have dumped it, but I'll prob get a new one when I start minding again, if i can get the tray not to fall off.

Hulababy · 24/06/2008 11:38

Tchibo one isn't, from what I have seen, as niceer looking as the TT, nor does it look as hard wearing either. But the cost is good.

I love the TT. had a standard high chair with DS1 and hated cleaning the blinking thing.

snickersnack · 24/06/2008 11:43

The Tchibo one was fantastic for dd - she loved it and would still be sitting in it if we hadn't turfed her out to make room for ds when he started joining us at the table. But...turns out he can escape from it. Only realised when I turned my back to get something from the fridge and he fell on the floor. Oops. It's a bit more roomy than the TT - don't think he'd have been able to escape from that based on watching him sitting in my friend's one. So we got an Antilop - fab fab fab. Matches our kitchen table and chairs, super easy to clean and takes up much less space than the Tchibo. I am a total Antilop fan.

bran · 24/06/2008 11:46

I have a Tchibo one for ds, I've had it since he was 2yo and he's now 4yo. It's great and pretty sturdy, but a chair with a tray was much easier to begin with.

I've never used a TT so I can't compare.
