How much morning milk at 9 mo???

My 9mo DS normally eats well and lunch and tea but we're really struggling with breakfasts. He has 150ml of milk on waking (anytime between 5am and 6.30am on a good day) and then I usually try for breakfast about 7.30 as this is when his nursery (3 days a week) give him breakfast.

However he just isn't that hungry and he'll eat a bit of cereal or fruit but its a painful process. Toast is out as he just throws it on the floor and isn't remotely interested.

If I try and leave it half an hour he's too tired as he tends to nap from about 8.30 or so.

Dio you think I'm giving him too much milk? I've tried just skipping straight to the solids and give milk afterwards when he started nursery but he just got upset so I stopped.

Bit stumped now really - can you share your morning eating routines? I just want to make breakfast a more pleasant experience for both of us!

dd (10m) is similar - I have given up on breakfast and give her supper instead.
5-6.30am milk
10am milk
11.30 lunch
2pm milk
3.30 tea
4.30-5ish milk
6pm supper
7pm milk and bed

My dd is 10 months and doesn't eat much breakfast - equivalent of half an oatibix plus full cream milk, or small amount of porridge with fruit.

She has a breast feed around 5-6am, breakfast isn't til 8 ish so one would think that she would be really hungry.

She makes up for it at other times. She has around 2 bottles (mid afternoon and bedtime 7pm ish, drinks around 180ml/6oz).

5-6am breast milk
8am small breakfast
10am small snack (banana or rice cakes etc) plus water
12 noon - lunch plus water
3pm ish formula
5pm ish tea plus water
7pm formula

(no milk generally until 5am but she is "allowed" it if wants it in the night)

ok, this is starting to make sense - I'm obviously not the only one! Maybe I should just significantly lower expectations.

When I look at Annabel Karmels book and how much she says they should eat I wonder of there's been some sort of mistake.

ds hasn't read the book though...

I take your point.

ds (9months) isn't much of a breakfast eater either, even when he was exclusively breastfed, he never took much in the morning which always surprised me. His routine is something like this...

7am breastfeed
8am breakfast (one weetabix and a mashed banana or similar - he rarely finishes it)
10am - midday nap
12.30pm lunch
3.30pm bottle formula - he rarely finishes it, usually takes 4-5oz
4.30-5pm tea
6.30pm breastfeed
10.30pm breastfeed

it's a bit of a moveable feast though, one day he eats barely anything and others he finishes the lot.

DD2 has

6.30am 5oz milk
7.30am either porridge or 1/2 a slice toast
12pm lunch pudding something milky
2.30pm 4oz milk
5pm dinner again something milky pudding
6.30pm 4oz to 6oz milk
11pm 6oz milk.

I wouldn't worry about breakfast to much. I think it by about year old when they are having 3 meals a day on a more regular basis.

ds (8 months) has
7.30am porridge then milk
10.30am milk
1pm lunch and water
4pm milk
6pm dinner and water
8.30pm milk

I have the opposite problem in that he loves his breakfast but not fussed on the lunch and dinner but I still offer it and if he doesn't want it, I don't push it. Milk he can drink anything from 120mls to 260mls. Considering myself v lucky when looking at how a lot of you are up at 5 or 6 in the morning.
