leaving weaning a while

Is there any danger or negative side to waiting until 7 months to start solids? We're going away for three weeks when the baby will be 6 months plus 1 week and I think it will all be a bit disrupted and may be better to start the new adventure when we come home. She's quite a small baby. She is bf.

If she seemed very keen for solids, I would do it but I think it may be more straightforward to wait.

Ideas?

No expert, but just imo I'd wait, can't imagine there would be a problem! Have a nice time!

No danger or negative side really by waiting a month, inspite of what your HV may tell you.

but why not try with some baby led weaning when you are away?

Is that when they grab things they want? I'm not sure what to offer. I'm sure she'd put stuff in her mouth. She put the remote in today. Ewwwwwww.

I'm with Daisy, sling a few lumps of veg in her direction and stay chilled out about it.

You won't do her any harm by holding off a bit longer (although I imagine this sort of crazy notion has your average HV fainting and ringing SS!). But BLW is really convenient and if your DD feels it's too much by way of 'new' things then she doesn't have to have anything, the ball is in her court.

Easiest things at that stage are really ripe pears cored and cut into quarters, broccoli florets and boiled carrot batons. But some babies prefer chunks. Just whatever you're having really (minus the salt obviously).

we started DD off with bits of brocolli, carrot, mashed potato, pear, banana, grated apple (a firm favourite) etc.

With the veg, I'd cut some bits smaller so they were a bit more cooked and softer than the stuff we were eating.

After six months she liked chewing on bread and things like pasta shapes as well. she did gag a few times on bread, but was well able to get the food back to the front of her mouth and try again.

some good stuff on Aitch's Blog

I weaned dd at 15 weeks and ds1 at 7 months and neither of them really got into food until about 9 months. Ds2 is 6 months and I'm not doing it yet. The boys were both premature though.

The only downside is all the hassle you get from other people... I'm telling them I'm waiting till he walks to the fridge and makes himself a sandwich .

Thanks for your replies. Sorry not to respond earlier - baby in hospital. Unexplained fever. All well now.
