Do babies' appetities actually increase at 6mths? Or do they need the extra vitamins? or what?!

I know that from 6mths their tummies etc should be ready for solids, but does a baby who is happy on milk feeds actually NEED solids then? I know the thing about iron stores but surely that is a gradual process, it can't all disappear at 6mths? This is all just a ponder, no real reason for asking...just started dd on a mix of BLW and some slop too...she is not all that fussed on any of it really, she doesn't seem any hungrier than she was at 5mths! Is there an age from which a LO's nutritional needs couldn't be met by BM alone?

(NB this is all just theoretical I promise, I will not feed DD BM only until she is 10..)

the iron stores is a bit of a myth actually.....your baby will get all the iron she needs from your BM for some time to come.

As for needing the solids.....I don't think so. food at this stage should be about fun and tastes and textures and they should continue to get most of their nutrition from milk until around 12 months of age.

they do have a growth spurt just beofre six months which can have people running for the baby rice, but increasing milk feeds will give them all that they need.

Lots more experts on the subject on here though, so no doubt someone will be along shortly.

But, if you are interested, there is some good info on kellymom about weaning and the iron thing
