looking for a bit of reassurance and advice.
my baby is about to turn 7 months and I’m so scared about weaning. she’s been on purées for about a month and we have one of them dummies that you put fruit in but I’m so scared about giving her actual food.
please tell me some of your weaning stories

So an important thing to know is that their gag reflex is at the top of their mouth at this age so it's not uncommon for them to gag at this age - its not choking!

I found this image really good.

If youre worried maybe get a life vac and familiarise yourself with baby first aid? Avoid slimy fruits like mango to start but ultimately dont worry too much.

Get the Solid Starts app, it gives advice on safe preparation of different foods. Choking is incredibly rare, and it's much safer to give actual food younger, it is risker to only give puree because they don't learn to chew. and let baby feed themselves, it is safer that way.

If you’re worried OP have you done a Paediatric First Aid Course? If not, I’d look for one in your area.

The other alternative is having a look at this information from the British Red Cross.

I think it’s alao worth trying to remember that choking is rare but babies can choke on bottles and purées so it’s more important to know what to do rather than stopping any form of feeding which might pose a risk?

This guide from the Caroline Walker Trust is good as it gives examples of first foods to try, a range of finger foods, advice on portion sizes and sample menus Smile
