She is 6 and half months old. It's our first baby. No experience of baby's before FTM. Using books and Google a lot for answers.

So we delayed weaning a week due to her having a cold.

Now we have started. She had 3 different vegetables blended with a little of her formula. Made it soup like thin.

She had about 2 out of 10 spoons of Carrott, she did not like sweet potato and now we tried butternut squash.
She doesn't open her mouth and it's really hard to get her to even take 1 spoon. I can except its messy and she has this time just for taste but she doesn't even seem to take 1 spoon for last 2 trys Does that mean she isn't ready? Are we then making a negative experience for her?
I gave her a spoon 2 weeks prior to play with and she put it in her mouth many times as tho like a toy.

It probably needs to be thicker. Try giving her some finger food too.

Probably a bit too thin. Give her some par boiled veg with it as finger food. Carrots battons a sweet potato chip, some broccoli florets.

No, it’s pretty normal. It takes up to several (I believe 7) tries for a child to accept a new food. Remember she is learning a brand new, multifaceted skill. It’s important for her to see you eat and enjoy food as well. I would seat her in the dining table with you during meal times. Instead of trying to feed her just let her play with her food, she will get curious eventually. Remember food in the beginning is just for introduction, she still has formula as the main deal.

Try some finger food instead.

Try BLW, she will eat when she’s ready.

DappledThings · 14/12/2025 17:32

Don't bother with blending. Just give her cooked carrot sticks or bits of broccoli. Chicken, scrambled egg, porridge all kinds of things are good that she can hold on and put in her mouth herself when she's ready to

I can try the BLW but was going to just start with puree first.. I have tried sitting next to her when eating. Our home is so small we don't have dining area we have to eat on trays on our sofa. we are in 1 bed flat 😔
I had plan for courgette tommrow so will try make some sticks out of it as well as puree
