Hey i am a first time mum. My daughter recently turned 11 months. Yesterday out of her 7 ounce she drinks between 1-4 ounces and sometimes not much solids. And today she is also hardly eating and playing with bottle Is it a teething thing? I am a first time mum feeling stressed 💆🏾. She seems well so i am not sure what is happening. Yesterday she had only 2 6 ounce bottles and a few spoons of food. So i thought maybe she only wants two bottles now but she is still being fussy

2 bottles of 6 Floz isn’t that bad. I know you’ll be worried but between 10 and 12 months the recommended amount for a FF baby is 15 Floz a day, so she’s not far from that.

If you think she’s teething, have you tried her with some pain relief, like Ibruprofen and have you tried appling a teething gel directly before food or a bottle? They both should help if it’s her gums bothering her Flowers

Hi yes i have been giving her teething gel, its abit of struggle giving her calpol as she won’t take it sometimes or won’t take all of it. In the past when she was teething she would drink milk but avoid food which is why i am abit worried

If she's otherwise well and still having wet nappies it's nothing to worry about. She's maybe teething or just feeling a bit under the weather. Is she pooing normally?

Have you tried her with yoghurt or a fruit puree? Something that's really easy to eat and quite sweet.

Bitzee · 13/11/2025 11:00

The first molars do usually appear around the time they turn 1 so it could very well be that. Or maybe she’s coming down with a bug since it is unfortunately the time of year for it.

If she doesn’t like Calpol try Nurofen. It’s better for teething anyway and mine always much preferred the taste so it was less of a struggle to get them to take it.

It’s very normal to be dropping bottles at this age. They’re supposed to be off them completely by 12 months (although a lot of people keep the bedtime one a bit longer) so 2x 6 ounce bottles sounds fine to me. Just keep offering food, try some pain relief and hopefully she’ll be eating again soon. Things like yoghurt, cucumber sticks and grissini always went down well with mine when they were teething.

Anbesol liquid (not gel) and nurofen are better than calpol. You just run the anbesol liquid on the gum.

SleafordSods · 13/11/2025 18:05

How is she this evening @Kathy06?

Kathy06 · 13/11/2025 18:09

The same i went gp she is hydrated and nothing indicates bowel issues or illness so i am so confused lol. She ate 4 spoons of breakfast has only had 6oz of milk today. Lots of sips of water. A little fruit pouch and thats it

I’m not a medical professional but I am an anxious mum, and this wouldn’t worry me much. if my gums were hurting I doubt I’d eat either and I eat less when I’m not well. As long as she has wet nappies and poos every 2/3 days and she doesn’t seem particularly unhappy, has no temp, breathing fine etc. I’d just keep offering food, offering milk and water and make sure I was offering easy to eat and non acidic things and then leave her to it. As pp said ibuprofen is better for teething than Calpol. Try cool teethers too. Or home made ice lolly’s

You need to buy it from a chemist but it works instantly. Nurofen takes between 20 to 30 mins to work.

If you’re worried about dehydration, this article has the signs to look out for.

Is she showing any other signs of discomfort apart from her gums? Is she pulling her ears or does she feel warm?

For now I would just keep offering her favourites and keep up with the Ibruprofen and teething gel.

Homemade lollies as suggested by a PP are good. How about some frozen banana or some cool cucumber? The Solid Start app will tells tou how to cut fruit and veg safely for her age Flowers

2-Ingredient Banana Ice Cream (SO Easy)

This is the easiest Banana Ice Cream with just two ingredients and the creamiest texture! It takes about 5 minutes with easy ways to customize it!

I have noticed her banging her ear or fiddling with it. They have been checked and they are fine so i think its related to teething and thank you

I’m glad the GP checked her ears. If the Doctor says they’re ok, then you’re right, it’s probably teething pain. Can you see of the teeth have broken through yet?
