Tap water for 8 month old?

I'd thought it was ok to give my DS tap water (have been doing so from 6 months) but my HV said yesterday that I should be giving him cooled, boiled water. Is that right? I feed really bad now if I've got it wrong...

afaik, the official guidelines are cooled boiled til 1 year. i have to say though, once they are mobile and eating the carpet, it's a bit of a waste...

In my 'birth to five' book I was given by HV it says tap water is fine from 6 months.

My dd has tap water since 6 months.

it is 6 months on the food standards agency website and the babycentre website too:

FSA:

For babies under six months old, take water from the mains tap in the kitchen and boil it.

Babycentre

Tap water should be boiled for babies up to six months of age. After that it can be offered straight from the mains supply

Thanks that makes me feel better - I'd thought that as he was almost chewing people's shoes that tap water wouldn't be so bad for him
