Does your 8 month old baby eat as little as mine?

Is it common for babies to eat this little, BLW aside?

Breakfast - 2 or 3 teaspoons or porridge or about 1 square inch of toast.

Lunch - 1 breadstick with Philly. Or 2 or 3 teaspoons of puree.

Tea - half a tbsp. scrambled egg and a quarter of a small pot of yoghurt and half a strawberry.

(nb. this isn't the only food I give him, btw, it's just a typical day's food!)

On top of this he has 4 or 5 bottles of between 2 and 5 oz.

Contented? Happy? BWAHAHAHAHA, my baby?!

He is well, but certainly not what you'd call a contented baby.

oh dear. you have my sympathy/empathy.
it will end soon, this hard hard slog, honest.
and the good thing about ll the sleep deprivation is that you wont really remember it v much
i am JUST coming out of the baby stage now after nearly 5 yrs... my eldest is 5 on monday, his brother is 13m younger, and the youngest 18m behind him. youngest is now 2.5 (which is the 'baby' of the family, but oddly enough his big bro was a big bro twice over by that age lol)
i have baby stage fatigue

I was told by someone that your stomach is the same size as your fist.

DD2 who is 9mths on sat now eats a lot more, but a month ago my life was just feeding her for example

6.30am 5oz milk

7.30am porridge or youghat

10.30am 3oz milk

12pm lunch a few spoons of puree

3pm 3oz milk

5pm dinner a few spoons of purree

6.30pm 6oz milk.

Each bottle feed could take anywhere from 30mins to an hour to get her to take ir .

Just a note of hope dd2 in the last month gone from being the grumpiest baby on earth to a happy little child who eats more food and less milk (don't think she likes it). The only times she screams now is if anyone else is easting and she hasn't got anything .

s'true. they really dont need that much.

also, have you ever tipped one of those titchy jars out onto a plate? it looks loads more out of the jar...

megcleary · 04/06/2008 09:02

just a quickie when they spit out food at 9 mo is there any point in saying no in a firm voice? or are dh and i deluding ourselves

lizziemun · 04/06/2008 09:07

No point at all.

Well not with dd2 just does it more with a big grin on her face .

megcleary · 04/06/2008 09:09

thought so first time parent naiveity

BoyzntheShire · 04/06/2008 11:08

nah, shes not doing it to be naughty.
'fraid you just have to cope with the mess for a few months.
fwiw, i largely did blw with my 3rd, cause i couldnt be arsed to sit there with a jar and spoon so i just chucked food on a tray and left him to it. now, he is terribly g&t and v advanced in lots of ways so this may not be related but he was eating FAR more tidily and competently WAY before the other 2. in fact, at 2.5 he still is the best and tidyest and most independent eater. the others are nearly 4 and 5.
