Please tell me your baby's favourite first foods?

I look after my friend's DS one day a week. He has just turned 7 months, and has taken to food very well over last couple of months. He has moved on from purees to more lump food, and is now trying finger foods as well.

So, when he comes I would prefer to cook for him. It will save his mum a bit of hassle too if I do rather than her providing food.

Trouble is it is a long time since I have done baby foods.

I will be doing lunch for him, plus tea which will be for him plus two 6yo girls.

What are your little one's favourites?

Can he have things like humous now?

I have forgotten all these rules since having DD six years go.

Also, can he have things like sultanas and raisins now to?

For lunch today I have just made him some chicken, rice, tomato and sweetcorn - done in the oven. So will see if he likes it I am doing fish pie (or just fish and mash perhaps) for dinner later, fror him and the girls.

dried fruit is fine in small quantities, but soaked in hot water to soften and chopped up or pureed, so it isn't a choking hazard.

Humous fine if no history of seed/nut allergy in family, or if you've already introduced sesame seeds with no adverse reaction. You can make your own too without the sesame seeds.

Only thing to avoid is honey and salt, other that that it's dependant on allergy worries. here's a consise list of foods to avoid and other general advice.

Fish pie sounds good, babies love the one I make with sweet potato and potato and peas mixed in.

v few rules after 6m - no honey or shellfish, consult his mum re her nut stance. And no chokey things like grapes.

Hulababy · 02/06/2008 13:15

Thanks for that.

I never cook with salt anyway so that isn't a problem. Honey one is same as when DD was little.

He enjoyed the rice and chicken meal. Ate lots Not sure what he made of the sweencorn TBH though - he just liked playing with thema nd trying to pick them up.

Have normal and sweet potato for the fish pie topping. Might do rice pudding with apricots for dessert later. My DD loves it anyway.

Gave him grapes earlier but they had been quartered

DD would have nothing but stewed apple for weeks and weeks.

(She's 7, and her top fave pudding is apple crumble!)

PuppyMonkey · 02/06/2008 13:16

Sweet potato definitely! And carrots. I also have the only baby in the world who actually liked baby rice!

Hulababy · 02/06/2008 13:16

No known allergiesin immediate family, but wouldn't introduce something liek nuts or eggs without checkig first anywy.
