Food being given by Childminder

Hi
LO is 10months and has just started with Childminder.

She has given her marmite sandwiches and dairylea sandwiches and wants to give her soya milk next week when she goes full time.

I didn't think they should have marmite, not sure about the other two items. Anyone got any advice?

Thanks

i wouldnt give soya milk, it can cause more allergies than cows milk.

why does she want to give her soya? goats is a better alternative to cows.

LIZS · 28/05/2008 13:23

Marmite is quiet salty but an occasional smear is not a problem and afaik Dairylea is ok. Is is sandwiches you don't like or the content ? Soya milk seems an oddity , any particular reason, it is quite sweet and not great for teeth ? Formula/ebm would be preferable as a drink.

Scubes · 28/05/2008 13:24

I think soya out of convenience as she has it herself. I give her cows milk myself. I think it's a while since she had a little one. I don't want to be the neurotic mother but also dont want lo getting mixed messages about food etc.

The only thing I would worry about is the soya milk, unnecesary imo

Nothing wrong with the occasional scraping of marmite though

OverMyDeadBody · 28/05/2008 13:26

Could you just send your own packed lunch instead?

Scubes · 28/05/2008 13:27

Have no problem her having sandwiches.. although haven't been brave enough to ask what bread she is giving her!

Apparently she is not eating very much there at all and whilst she doesn't have a great appetite at home either I'm a bit concerned about what's creeping into her diet.

Control freak! We've just invested a lot of time with the weaning process and what we give her so just want to make sure this carries on.

I would have been unhappy with DS being fed dairylea as a baby, but for food snobbish reasons rather than health ones, I wouldn't have wanted him developing a taste for shite

Pinkjenny · 28/05/2008 13:27

Mine loves dairylea sandwiches, and would gladly eat them for every meal.

Pinkjenny · 28/05/2008 13:28

Oh sorry, I didn't realise I was feeding my child shite.

Kewcumber · 28/05/2008 13:28

I like Dairylea

OverMyDeadBody · 28/05/2008 13:28

Send a packed lunch

OverMyDeadBody · 28/05/2008 13:28

yopur choice, don't appologise

Kewcumber · 28/05/2008 13:29

well hopefully she's not feeding him wholemeal or high bran breads as I think thats not receommneded until they are much older.

Scubes · 28/05/2008 13:29

Oops seem to have sparked a debate about Dairylea! I quite like it too. Just wasn't sure if little ones should be eating it.

very true kew

Pinkjenny · 28/05/2008 13:30

flounces

LIZS · 28/05/2008 13:31

If she is a cm she can't inflict her personal choices on her charges if that isn't in their best interest She obviously isn't dairy free if she offers them Dairylea anyway. Think you may need ot ahve a chat or decide to supply cows milk yourself if all is otherwsie well. However I would be concerned this might be symptomatic of further issues down the line.

madamez · 28/05/2008 13:31

I'd be mildly concerned about the soya milk: is your CM a vegan freak or something? It's not unreasonable to send in your own food supplies for your DC especially if the CM reports DC not eating much.

OverMyDeadBody · 28/05/2008 13:31

the best way to tell if a baby should be eating somethgin is to look on the ingredients list.

Dairylea is purely a matter of taste!

Like, there's nothing wrong with white bread per se, but I would avooid the long-life white sliced stuff full of preservatives.

Scubes · 28/05/2008 13:32

Bugger, really? About the wholemeal bread? (hangs head in shame) that's what we've been giving her at home.

What should she have?

OP posts:
Jojay · 28/05/2008 13:33

What's wrong with wholemeal bread?

LIZS · 28/05/2008 13:34

ours usually had wholemeal !

Kewcumber · 28/05/2008 13:36

not sure I'd give soya milk either.

Kewcumber · 28/05/2008 13:38

I'd have to google again its been a while since I had to think about it. I think there was two reasons for avoiding whoelmeal bread...from memory:

1 - too filling for small stomachs, fills them up too quickly before they can take in enough vitamins, minerals and calories
2 - vaguely recall bran prevents absorption of one of the key vitamins.

Will go search now.

Kewcumber · 28/05/2008 13:39

obviously if diet isn;t high in bread doesn;t really matter much but probably should be avoided at every meal. I'll go go check whetehr I'm talking bollocks...
