2 year breast feeding ? Crisis

My 2 year old daughter has suddenly started asking to be breastfed 4 + times per day. She was only having 1-2 breast feeds per day and eating quite decent sized meals and snacks. Last week suddenly she started asking for breastmilk frequently. I googled it and some sites came up talking about a 2 year breast feeding crisis. I didn't know this was a thing. I wouldn't say that she had any of the other breastfeeding crises. She often chucks her meals on the floor now and is pretty grumpy at mealtimes but seems quite content rest of the day.

Does anyone else have experience of this? Any useful tips?

When my toddlers upped their breastfeeding, they generally were either fighting off an illness or about to take a developmental leap - they tend to get more clingy just before setting off to become more independent in some way.

I dont understand your question? If you want you breastfeed her, do. If you dont, dont. Its reciprocal at this age. I wouldn't feed mine outside or at night at this age, or if I was too busy. If I wanted to, I would. I would guess that mine fed between 2 and 4 times a day ( more if ill ) til I stopped at 3.

I found the same.

I would say if she is old enough to ask for it she is too old to need it. But I am not your average MNer who would breastfeed into college if they could

🙄

Maybe read the NHS advice about breastfeeding til at least 2. And consider that every baby “asks”, just not in words. Tiresome.

More just worrying about the sudden change in behaviour

Are molars at play here Op? My DS is 27 months and whenever he’s teething he goes off solids and wants to breastfeed more

My first guess was molars, with the teething pain putting your little one off their food. If you're concerned, are there any NCT or other breastfeeding support groups local to you? Sometimes it's nice to have a chat in person when something feels a bit weird, even if it's ultimately nothing to worry about

Are they teething or sick? Or were you more available recently? My toddler ups her feeds occasionally for those reasons.

Thanks, just worrying about the sudden change. She's been quite ill and had a vaccination recently so maybe that's it.

Thank you, that's a really good idea, there is a support service I can use.
