Struggling with weaning - 10 month old

Has anyone else’s LO refused spoon feeding but has also stopped feeding themselves?

Weaning my DD started pretty slowly, she would only have a small amount of puree for a few months. Things seemed to improve but a few weeks ago she completely refused to be spoon fed. Lips firmly clamped shut & turning head away from spoon!

When this happened we started giving her only finger foods, which was (surprisingly!) going really well initially, but now she’s stopped bringing anything to her mouth & chucks everything on the floor as soon as it’s in front of her, argh!

I guess I’m just wondering if this has happened to anyone else? I’m hoping it’s just a phase, but I’m also worried she isn’t getting enough calories from my milk alone and don’t know at what stage I should contact her GP (or health visitor?)

I knew weaning would be a bit up and down but I didn’t really expect this many issues!

Could she be teething @BFhelp2024?

As PP said, teething can cause a loss of appetite. Maybe try making some teething biscuits and see if she wants those?

Omg yes. My ds was like this, no advice he just ate eventually but he was one and not eating much.

Can you try giving Calpol or ibuprofen half an hour before feeding and see if that helps? If it's mouth pain, that should help.

Other things i tried when my baby was being fussy at 11 months: putting just a little bit on their plate so it's not overwhelming; eating the same thing and making a really ostentatious show about how yummy it was; and teasing the baby a little bit with the food - ooh look, a yummy orange segment flying towards you - oh no, mummy's stolen it and she's taken a bite, maybe baby would like a bit (basically 'here comes the aeroplane', to build up interest and anticipation).

My baby would clamp their mouth shut at food they had eaten happily the week before. We tried not to put too much pressure on it and gradually baby got back into it. No idea what caused the strike!
