DS gone off food - what am I doing wrong?

DS is 27 weeks. We've been weanig him for about 3 weeks. He was fine at first - lapped up baby rice, then carrot, then sweet potato. Last week it all went to pot - he had a cold and was teething a bit so maybe that was what stgarted it. But now he still won't eat. He's had a bit of mushed banana yesterday and I've tried everything with the other food, made it runnier, made it with baby rice, made it with extra milk etc, but he just blows raspberries whenever the spoon goes near. He\s not interested in BLW either - won't put food near his mouth - just looks at it and drops it. I've got all these blooming cubes in the freezer and he's not having any of it. SHould I be worried or is it normal for bubs to go off the idea of solids completely? Whats the latest that babies can start weaning by?

first off, chill out - ds sounds fine and won't suffer without his cubes

make it all low-key and low-pressure - offer finger food but don't worry if he's not interested - he'll come round in his own time.

Yes don't worry about it. Just offer finger foods or a bit of whatever you are having when you eat (assuming it's suitable) - it's up to him if he eats any and if he doesn't he maybe isn't quite ready. My ds also went through this stage, and didn't really start eating significant amounts until he was well over 1yo. As long as he's still getting his milk he won't be missing out on anything.

rationally I know its silly to make a fuss - he's only beenn at it for 3 weeks, but because he started so well it just seems now that he's niever going to eat agian. IT's so frusttrating and worrying.

also, what other things could I offer?

I got very frustrated too when my ds went off food. Looking back I really wish I had been able to stop worrying. (I know this is easier said than done). He will get there in the end. Tatties and MrsBadger's advice is great.

How old was he and how long did it last constancereader? knowing others went thru the same thing is sad but also comforting iykwim

offer him anything you're eating - a Shreddie, a bit of toast, a strip of chicken, a french bean, a piece of fusilli, a slice of pear...

Mine went through exactly the same thing and I wish I hadn't got so hung up about weaning and started the process later (we started at about 5 months and looking back I think I convinced myself he was showing signs of being ready for food when he probably wasn't totally ready for it).

He's just turned one and its only now he seems to have started enjoying food properly. I totally agree with MrsBadger and Tatties - chill out, don't worry about going crazy with purees and he will eat in his own time. My purees are still languishing in the freezer where I am sure they will remain until I finally chuck them. I'm not even going to bother with that stage if I have another baby in the future!

Tatties · 21/05/2008 22:16

I started giving ds miniscule amounts of puree at 5mo, which I think in retrospect was too early, but at the time he would take the odd spoonful. Once he hit 6mo however he totally went off it, he was just not interested at all, and thank goodness I discovered BLW! It really took the pressure off, I wasn't lovingly preparing purees especially for him, only for them to be rejected. It was liberating and easy to offer a bit of whatever I was having and leave it up to him what he wanted to do with it. I think at this stage you are doing a great job if you if you offer healthy, nutritious foods and eat with him. He will get the idea eventually, when he is ready. IIRC, ds's appetite could fluctuate greatly from week to week, some days he would eat loads, and some days he would eat nothing (apart from milk). He is 3 now and never stops eating
