i have seen a few different varieties on the internet - euralait do a salt free soft cheese, vermont butter and cheese company do one but not sure which sort, there was a salt free gouda to name a few but does anyone know if you can get anything like this in the supermarket?

this has been driving me a bit nuts. the only supermarket one i could find was the green (goats cheese but not v goatscheesy in taste imo) babybel. I couldn't see salt mentioned on the packaging anywhere. it's in the red and yellow ones and in every other sort of cheese except unpasturised ones (which i don't think you're meant to use for babies). hth.

i looked at the babybels too but then when i looked at the nutritional information there was 0.4g of sodium. i wondered if they only have to put salt in the ingredients if it's added salt, as opposed to salt used to naturally make the product iyswim?

which unpasteurised ones don't have salt?

It's virtually impossible to avoid all salt and still have a balanced diet. I think of it as a pay-off: is the rest of the food worth the salt? So cheese is valuable (calcium and protein) whereas crisps are not. After all, if you're being cautious the rest of the baby's diet will be very low on salt, so it balances out.
