My baby was always good with food, but after turning 1 he's more fussy. I read that it's normal. Problem is that all the veg that he likes is orange and I noticed that his hands are literally orange now, I read that it's called carotenemia. How do I get him to eat any other veg? Any idea? Keep offering? I'm trying to add peas into his porridge tonight, fingers crossed he'll be Oki with that.

He does like chicken and every single fruit out there. And thankfully he will eat an omelette which I can stuff with other veg. He is still breastfeed, but only at night.

As they become more independent children become “fussier” ie more conservative with foods because tgey are more likely to consume new things which could be potentially harmful—as they begin walking and exploring toddlers will start encountering foods or plants while their caregiver is absent. Refusing to try new things is very protective as child is less likely to try something poisonous or spoiled.

I would suggest talking to your child—even if you think they are too young to understand—show them how delucious and safe new foods are. Let them choose new foods from your adult plate. Avoid trying to bribe them with foods they already eat to excess. This too will pass.

Ah thank you. That makes sense. I'll try to cut down on sweet potatoes. At least not every day. I let him take whatever from plate but he just ends up feeding me haha

Interestingly, he eats everything (at least that what they say), in a nursery.

You can make dishes with veg e.g. stews, sauces e.g to include tomatoes, peppers, onions etc Then you can make veg purees (can get ideas from the ones are in shop). Start with adding just a bit so he can get used to the taste. My daughter sometimes sees something she thinks she doesn’t like it as she’s not tried it before, but I still try to give it to her so she gets the taste and then she eats it 😂 I like Ella’s kitchen for kids food, there are quite nice recipes with veg, meat etc

I used to make pasta sauces - essentially a tomato one, but I used onions, tomatoes, red pepper, celery, carrots and blitz it. I could get away with adding mushrooms and even courgette if I peeled it first.

You can do the same with Bolognese, cottage pies, stews etc

Are you happy to BF at night? I would think about doing some gentle night weaning. This should hopefully increase his appetite for food during the day Smile

Yeah, happy to bf at night. That way I know that he still gets nutrients! Yes, we are doing very gentle weaning, I stopped bf during the day this months, but if he's ill I do offer breast. I found that he is more keen to have cows milk during the day now.

Yes, that's a good idea! Thank you. He ate pasta with tomato sauce yesterday

Yep, totally normal for things to change after 1, my little one was the same.

You’re doing such a great job !
Keep offering other veg without pressure, it can take loads of tries before they even taste it.
Omelettes are a lifesaver, I used to grate courgette or spinach in.
Smoothies with greens and fruit helped too.
Like someone else already said, you can sneak so much into sauces !

Thank you! One day he eats omelette and one day he refuses it. I'll just keep offering him different food.
