I have tried cerelac with my 8 month old and he is loving it. Its not available easily but it can be found in most asian shop and tesco. Can anyone please advise me if its ok to give it as lunch or dinner to my dc?

What is it? Do you mean the vegetable celeriac?

EffiePerine · 20/05/2008 13:24

why not? if he'll eat it (I assume you mean celeriac). DS won't touch anything that tastes of celery.

TigerFeet · 20/05/2008 13:28

If you mean celeriac then it's available in a lot of places these days. Be aware though that celery and celeriac contain a recognised allergen - not meaning to scare you but some people do have a reaction to it.

If you have tried it and your children like it, there is no reason not to continue

Tis delicious in salad.

TigerFeet · 20/05/2008 13:36

It's also nice mashed in with potato

Or thinly sliced, drizzled with olive oil and roasted

mmmmm

I am not talking about vegetable celery, I am talking about a milk cereal for infants. Its mixed with water and forms like a puree. Its very tasty and comes in variety of flavours like wheat and honey, fruits and wheat, Rice with milk etc.

i remember eating cerelac from the tin as my mother used to put it into my brother's bottle in the 70's. It is I suppose, some kind of cereal (rice or wheat?), milk and sugar. I remember it being quite sweet. I only see it in Asian shops too.

smerchant · 21/05/2008 13:18

Yes thats the one. Its not sweet anymore and i have tasted it myself and its good. It comes in box and tin and seems to claim that it has all the essential nutrients needed for baby after 6 months.

personally I can't think it is any more clever or sophisticated than, say, readybrek with milk, tbh. that also is a cereal with vitamins added.

it isn't a miracle baby product, iyswim.

MrsBadger · 21/05/2008 13:35

I'd only give it for breakfast, not at other meals

i def does not contain all the nutrients needed for a baby after 6m - they need proper milk (bf or formula) and a variety of foods inc protein, fats, fruit and veg as well as carby cereals.

solo · 21/05/2008 18:05

Hahaha! totally not a vegetable!
